noticed that several new releases that I purchased are locking up and freezing also tried downloading ANYdvd to no avail. Any suggestions?

First of all check out after dawn news letter on subject.
Second of all the way I have been burning those movies successfully w/ 4.0.3.8 is by using dvd-x rescue that came w/ platinum.Just open it and clickthe rescue button and let copy all files and then burn them, new css protected files and all.Of course what after dawn news letter said would probably be quicker.I have had no problems at all w/ using rescue to do it for me though.Good luck
