Hi,

System
PS2 v7
Flip Top
Swap Magic v3.3

The weird problem is that with flip top installed none of my PS2 CD games work anymore including the CD swap disc. All the DVDs work fine as do DVD backups

The first day the PS2 did read Swap CD and a Harry Potter although it struggled mightily spinning like crazy. It even loaded up the backup Harry Potter CDR game. It failed to do so the following day.

Removing the flip top and holding the original black lid in place with an open PS2 fixes this problem. All CDs and the back up CD work fine without the horrific spin noises.

I have cleaned the lens. I have made laser adjustments by turning the knob and testing. This was a drag since I would have to put on the flip top after each rotation and check if CDs could be read (merely holding down the original black lid doesn't suffice because the games work that way but fail when the flip top is put on)

Could I be kinking the eject/reset cable when I put the flip top on? I have it taped to the side :(

Only solution I forsee is burning the few CD games I have over on to DVDs. I saw one FAQ about how to accomplish this. Has anyone else given that a shot?

Well, I guess the inability to play a few older CD games is outweighed by being able to backup my newer DVD games. Too bad the original PS2 laser was such a poor design :(

Any other ideas appreciated. Thanks

Cheers,

Kai

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I think I will just accept the fact that with the flip top my PS2 v7 just wont read CDs anymore (except Aliens vs Predator). I was able to convert Harry Potter from CD to DVD using this link:

http://www.home.zonnet.nl/joeriroels/Download/DVD_games%20DVDRIPS%20and%20CD%20games_on_a_DVD_-JRLS.htm

I will convert over the 4 other cd games I have and stick to DVDs. Thanks

Cheers,

Kai

Hi

DOH! Mystone you are the WIN. My fliptop came with a white disc in position but it LACKED a magnet. It would make horrible noises when spinning even original DVD/CDs. I went through the process of adjusting the laser knob but still could not read any CDs and then realized that all CD/DVD worked fine if i just laid the original cover on the disc and kept the fliptop off.

After reading your post again, I noticed the white discs looked different. I swapped them and now everything works great without the horrific spin noises. The instructions, such as they are, dont mention a thing about swapping these plastic white magnetized disc holders. They dont include one with the flip top. Heck, I dont know why they just dont make it with it built in unless I got a defective plastic thingy lacking the magnet. This lack of magnet was the whole problem. Everything looks good now. Thanks

Cheers,

Kai
