LiteOn SOHW-812S: Writing hanging during lead in?

I have a 8x LiteOn SOHW 812S DVD+/-RW drive that I have used successfully for almost 2 years now. Hardly any coasters at all, and couldnt be happier with it. It was only until recently that I began experiencing problems with it.

This drive has no problems reading DVD's/CD's. The problem appears when writing to DVD/CD during lead-in. The lead-in lasts so much longer now, lasting anywhere from 15 sec. to approx 3 mins. before actually writing files to the disc. I can clearly hear the disc spin normally, then it stops, spins, then stops, spins, then stops, and so on and so forth until it begins to actually write the files. Also, I can hear an almost scratchy sound coming from the writer during this lead-in. These unusual sounds and behaviors did not occur until recently, and I have not changed any settings, etc. The burning apps I have used, and gotten the same results, are CloneDVD2 & Nero.

I am wondering if the power supply of this pc is causing the problems b/c it was also not until recently that I have noticed that I needed a new power supply(this one is at least 5yrs old) My comp has started going into standby mode while playing strong games, etc. But standby mode has never happened when writing a disc with this pc. Could the power supply affect the RW drive in such a way that it would hang during lead-in? Or is the LiteON just crapped out as far as writing is concerned?

I have to imagine that someone out there has experienced similar issues. Any help here would be well appreciated. Thanx.
