Macrovision is due to release a new DVD
encryption. Has anyone come across this type of protection anywhere? Thanks for any replies.
I'm new to Afterdawn.

i think that's for a newer type of dvd's, so as long as i can get all current titles on dvd, for me that's a problem for another day, and more expensive equipment/higher capacity media (sigh). but no doubt there are some talented peepl who will find a way around these feeble and pointless encryptions.

I wouldn't worry about it. Macrovision themselves says it wouldn't protect against all ripping programs. I think they are more concerned about copy protecting(making money off of)Blue-Ray and HD DVDs. Even then it's not going to completely prevent people from backing up those movies.

What does this have to do with copy protection?

yeah exactly. plus i'd be more worried about how much bloat crap they will fill up discs with, or i mean 'special features' yeah rite :)
lets face it i can'r see films getting much longer than 2hours, and films getting created with more quality certainly wont help my knackered old eyes see the CGI any better.
it's all about money and as long as it is there'll always be a way round it. now definitely must go work..

From the article:
Quote:
Gervin said Macrovision engineers have spent several years looking at how various DVD-copying software packages work, and have devised ways to tweak the encoding of a DVD to block most of them.
And how long do you think it'll take Lightning_UK and Slysoft to get around it? No wonder Macrovision is losing money - they spend years researching for a protection that'll be bypassed in no time.
