it more than just the cd/dvd check. The check is there because cd's and dvd's are read differently and the ps2 needs to know what one it is reading.

is there any possibility of me still achieving the goal of playing backup discs? i may lose the ability to read DVDs, no? but if that is the case i do not mind not being able to play DVDs just so long as i can play my backups. Maybe you know more on this, if you could please elaborate.. thanks

Yeah, get a modchip or swap magic and a fliptop.

those are some crappy directions. I don't think that this will allow you to play backup games though.

That was just a schematic for a circuit that detects when the PS2 is checking the disc authenticity. It doens't actually bypass any copy protections. It was likely implimented in the modchips that detect when the PS2 is attempting to authenticate the disc in the drive.
PS2 - v8
Mod - Magic V
Burner - CenDyne (Pioneer) DVR-A05
Media - Anything Cheap
Gamecube w/Broadband Adapter
Phantasy Star Online
Animal Crossing Loader v1.4
Phantasy Star Uploader v1.1
Gamecube ISO Ripping Server v1.0.0.29

ah so it just tells you when the cdvd check is being accessed, maybe as an indicator to when the bypass SHOULD be.. if the other Modchips have that function?
Hmmm well im still nowhere... and fast. Hmmm.. well seeing as how i have the scph-39000 ps2 should i get a DSM4 chip then, and install it myself or what... what would you guys recommend as my next course of action?
