I would say 'yes' to both, because doing so is not only simple, it ensures best possible chance of success.
'Get VTS Sectors' is a simple step that takes only moments to do. If I omit this one step, the resulting dvd is not recognized by my standalone, even though I know the vobs themselves are perfect. By simply updating the .ifos (Get VTS Sectors), the disc is recognized immediately.
Similarly, including an empty AUDIO_TS is a *must* if for no other reason you can do it with your eyes closed. The folder contains *nothing*, but it's presence is required by my burning software (Prassi). Lots of commercial dvds don't have an audio_ts folder, (and lots of others DO) so strictly-speaking, it's not technically necessary. But it *cannot* hurt to include it. Of those commercial dvds that do include it, I've never once seen the folder to contain any files, but it must be there for a reason, right?
Always burn an empty audio_ts folder along with your video_ts, and be sure to 'get vts sectors' just prior to your burn.

Yes you nned to get vts sectors so that the ifo file contains the correct info and in the right order to play the movie, I also believe that without the AUDIO_TS folder the dvd will not be recognised as a playable dvd, but im not 100% sure on this one.

A_Klingon,
Is the "Get VTS SEctors" step only applicable to the VTS_01_0.ifo file? Or should this be done to any IFO files that have been changed/modified?
Reason why I ask is because I did the "Get VTS Sectors" step on the VST_01_0.ifo file, which I DID NOT make any changes to...and the dvd+r will not play on my stand alone, but it WILL play on my PC.
I did, however, do the "Get VTS Sectors" step on the VIDEO_TS.ifo....which I made changes to...(took out trailers and such)
So which files do I need to "Get VTS Sectors" for?
Please advise...

Khanh :
After you have stripped out everything you wish, and now want to prepare for a burn, CLOSE IFOEDIT. THEN REOPEN IT. Click on "Get VTS Sectors". Open up _any_ of the available .ifo files; it doesn't matter which one. IfoEdit will ask you if you wish to modify (correct) _all_ the ifos available. Reply, "Yes!". One by one, the ifos will be correctly modified. Each time you get an info-window (after an ifo has been updated), click the "ok" button and ifoedit will automaticaly proceed to the next ifo. Click "ok" until the process is done. Exit IfoEdit. Whole thing takes about 10 seconds.
Merry Christmas !

I was reading that the VIDEO_TS is the directory used by DVD video players. AUDIO_TS is the directory used by DVD-A players (DVD_Audio players). I burned LOR (split to 2 disks) without the AUDIO_TS directory and it plays in my PC,XBox,PS2,even in a first generation RCA DVD player I haven't used for a year. Does anyone have any concrete proof of the AUDIO_TS directory requirement?

You only need to Do AUDIO_TS if your DVD player requires it. Some do, some don't. GET VTS Sectors only has to be done if you are playing on a standalone player.

After more research I found this article which states the only two directories which are mandatory are the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS directories.
"The directory structure of a DVD disc is as shown below, where only the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS directories are mandatory. Files which are not for DVD-Video or DVD-Audio are contained in other directories as required by the application."
Found at the disctronics site:
http://www.disctronics.co.uk/technology/dvdintro/dvd_filesys.htm
"The important thing is that it doesn't seem to hurt anything and it only takes a second to create the directory so why not do it." as stated above by A_Klingon.
I think he has a point.
