Need advice on solving problem with Viper install!

I recently installed a viper modchip in my cube. After extensive reading I'm pretty certain I've either got a faulty chip or my soldering wasn't perfect,as it was my first time modding. After some initial teething problems I managed to flash the chip with Cobra 4 and can access the bios when switching on the console and follow directions to swap discs. However I eventually get a message asking me to insert a game disc. I burnt 2 game roms on mini dvdr, purchased from Divineo (where I got the viper) but both show the same message. Both roms have the garbage intact and my gamecube still works with originals. From reading other threads I feel it may be a problem with the yellow or purple wires. I have insulated the yellow wire so it is not touching the heatsink but I may have created a solder bridge between one leg and another. As I said this was my first time. I'm sure somebody out there has the knowledge to help. Thanks in advance.
