""The .m3u files are basically just textfiles that list one MP3 or other media file on each line, normally with full path or URL to the file.

So all you need is Notepad to insert then you would save as an m3u . Here's a sample made for my PC !

E:\Archives\Musique\Rock\Top Gun - Highway to the dangerzone.mp3

E:\Archives\Musique\Rock\Boomtown Rats - I don't like mondays.mp3

E:\Archives\Musique\Rock\Def Leppard - Two steps behind.mp3

E:\Archives\Musique\Rock\Evanescence - Everybodys fool.mp3

E:\Archives\Musique\Rock\Green Day - Boulevard of broken dreams.mp3

E:\Archives\Musique\Rock\Led Zeplin - Dream On.mp3

E:\Archives\Musique\Rock\Pearl jam - Yellow ledbetter.mp3

E:\Archives\Musique\Rock\The Cult - Fire Woman.mp3

E:\Archives\Musique\Rock\The Darkness - Friday night.mp3

Good Luck

Grins ! Smiles !! Hahahahaha!

The above was meant to explain what the inside of an m3u file looked like -- by all means do use the playlist save button on whatever media player you are using -- !

yeah, much easier than having to type it out manually

For the best quality mp3s use EAC (exact audio copy) to rip your audio CDs and LAME to encode them. Follow this guide:

Hahahaha !! My post was misleading -- to say the least ! I wanted to give an example of what he would see if he opened an m3u.

Smiles !!.. sure is faster to make playfiles from whatever media player you are using !--- !! !

You dont need to type all that -- a Directory lister does the typing for you in ONe mouse click.

I have one of those old Archos 20GB HD MP3 players - pre-dates the IPOD by a few years. Anyway, Windows sees the player as a portable drive, so it's a drag/drop operation to move MP3 files onto the player.

I discovered early on how to do playlists - open WinAmp on the PC, add files from the player to a playlist, then save the playlist on the player. Even though the player doesn't use WinAmp (it has it's own decoder in firmware), WinAmp M3U files are an easy way to build playlists.
