Check if your cd-rom driver is working fine, even if looks so, try with another cd-rom drive, could be a "reading problem", also make sure sure the bios don't have enabled the antivirus if is equiped with it.

take a look at the xp cd to see if scratched or cracked as i ran into that problem with a cd that was cracked on the bottom side but didn't show thru the top side & the program would freeze at that point

take a look at the motherboard at the cans(capacitors) to see if flat top or domed as they are supposed to be flat topped not domed. how big is the new hd? remove all cards from motherboard as you have onboard video than try loading windows

At what stage/phase does this freeze happen, exactly what is on the screen?

Do you have a separate Video card or is it built into the MB?

What are you clicking on? You lost me on that one. When is your computer freezing? When it first starts, before you enter information, after Product Key?

Now it really sounds like a hardware issue. Go back to the basics and make sure that CMOS shows all your devices, that your HD is set to Master by Jumper and that your Primary IDE is showing your HD while booting. Also take the suggestion of jfpolo and verify that your CD or DVD-Rom drive is on your Secondary IDE and set as Master on that IDE in CMOS as well as set to Master by Jumper on the rear. HD needs to be on the Black Plug of your HD and the Blue Plug on the MB. Same for your CD or DVD.

Don't assume it is. Double check it.

IT DOESNT matter the order of divices beacuse your are installing win and the problem occurd in final stages of instalation which means is not likely the dvd,hdd order the hdd is doin what suppose to (copy files) so either check your win cd or what i toll you before the ddr sticks!
