I have a presario 6370US i have tons of burning apps like nero, alcohol, clonedvd.... and use windows xp. I bought the comp like 3 years ago it came with a free cd burner, so i used it after some months i stopped using it,till like 2 months ago i tried to burn a cd again and the progress bars would fill up to 100% but the cd-r always came up blank!But it read cd's just fine but couldnt burn them.I thought it was the cd-r's so i bought new ones, same thing happens!!!!! So i come to this forum and they tell me to unistall the drivers and let xp detect the new device, didnt work, then to clean the lens, so i open the comp up and check the connections all fine then open the cd drive it was free so i didnt care, i cleaned the lens with a q-tip and rubbing alcohol, i admit i was moving things around trying to see if anything was broken, like the cd-tray, before i opened it i made sure to check the preferences it said device is working properly, after i opened it, it couldnt even recognize the damn blank cd-r!!!!!!!!! I heard a spin then a click and stop then spin clicks stop. Somebody at this forum recommended i buy a new cd burner saying its probably old so i buy a refurbished dvd/cd burner from New-egg.com i install it and IT DOES THE SAME DAMN THING!!!!!!!!!! it cant recognize the cd-r's it spins clicks stops spins clicks stops,what the hell same thing on a completely different burner. The software tells me to insert a blank cd-r, because it cant read the blank cd-r in it!!!It reads cd's and dvd movies just fine though.I still havent tried it with blank dvd-r's. i open the comp again and switch ide cables with the one connecting the hard drive to the cpu board thinking it might be the cord, same thing happens.
i uninstall the other burning software and only leave nero, same thing happens. I still have to use one of those cd's that clean the lens or maybe its the media i use maxell and memorex the 50 packs ,or its service pack 2 , i uninstalled it but maybe files r still left. But i dont want to do a fresh re-install of xp because id lose all my files and music, and it might not solve the problem, PLZ HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
