V12 wont read backup cds

Hi. I have a V12 (slim) ps2 with the mx4 modchip. However, it wont read backup cds at all, or with great difficulty. The unit vibrates like hell, as the cd spins the drive tries to read it.
The same cds read perfectly on my older v9 with the matrix infinity chip.

What could be the problem? Bad chip installation, laser problem, or doesnt the v12 like cds?

Exact same problem. I cant even play origional PS1 games, never mind CD backups!

Similar problem. I have just installed a Matrix Infinity MX4 + NeoFixII Laser mod in v12 slimline UK PAL PSTwo. I have successfully updated the firmware to v1.1. I get the PlayStation2(MX4 v1.1) logo when booting an orignal game. I can also disable the MX4 by holding START button on power up. However it will NOT boot any backups at all. I get the RED 'Insert Playstation format disc....' screen. Tried various blank media - NO JOY. I have triple checked my wiring and checked for shorts with multimeter. I have emailed MrModChips and the Matrix Team to see if they can help.

I just found out i have a Matrix Infinity Version 2 chip. How do you normally boot PSX games with this?

if its psx games your trying to play try booting your PS2 with no game and pressing triangle and changing the disc speed to fast. Works for me on my slim PS2 as i had problems too. I cant seem to find a way to save these settings though so when you turn the PS2 off you must change them again next time. The settings stay the same though if you reset it, useful for boot disc users.

I read a lot more about cooked lasers in V12 wich had built in a neofix2.
The reason is that the NEOFIX2 DON'T WORK AT ALL !!!!!!!!!!!!
After using seperate components (1n4148 and pic-ic) for laser protection, i deceided to use the Neofix2 because the easyer installing.
I test after modding every pic-ic on his working by grounding point "K".
The PStwo must then shut down to standby after 2 seconds.
To my suprise the pic on the Neofix2 does not shut down the PStwo.
Also the same result with the other Neofix pcb's.
The conclusion is that the pic-ic on the Neofix2 was not or faulty programmed.
I email immidetly to the manufactor about this problem, but get not any reaction. Also they don't react on three reply's !!!!
Also Divineo (where i bought them) don't give a reaction.
It is a big shame that they selled protection's that don't work.
The result is that a lot of owners thought that they have a protection in the PStwo and that this goes defective unessasery, because a not working protection.
Also a friend of my that is installer had the same experience with a later badge Neofix2's. So they keep on selling the faulty Neofix !!!
We where lucky that we noticed this on time, so we don't use the pic on the Neofix2, but a lot of users and installers have now problems with cooked lasercoils, thanks to NEO !
So let this be a warning to everyone.
Always check if the pic protection works !
And NEO: shame yourself !
