My swap magic 3.3 cd disc won't boot, I just get a read error. The dvd disc works fine, but the cd one won't. I need to run discidutility, but I can't if the swap magic cd won't boot. Anyone have any suggestions? I've used verbatim and sony cd-rs and I have a ps2 v9. I can, however, put in audio cd-rs and they work, but this wont work.

mjonz20, i had that problem too. try to insert the swap magic disk before the ps2 starts to load. what i mean is try to let the cd load by itself without clicking on browser. whenever i click on the browser with the cd version of swap magic it gives me a disc error. hope that helps.

I have the same problem. Tried changing the speed and mapping and it still won't read. Every time I turn off the machine though the speed and map settings go back to normal, so I'm not sure if there is something that needs to be done to lock them in.

I thought it might be a problem with my laser reading cds, but I can read a normal PS2 cd fine (tested with Frequency).

V9 with a flip top.

Figured it out!

It seems that the flip top spring was located directly in the path of my laser....meaning that any time the laser had to read the farthest portion of a disk it would hit the spring, make a clicking noise, and fail to read the disk.

This caused problems in reading the Swap CD as well as several larger DVD games, such as Timesplitters, Devil May Cry, and Rachet & Clank 3.

It may have just been possible to loosen the screws so the spring didn't drop down far enough to hit the laser. But for extra security, I just cut off a piece of the plastic flip top that the laser was running into. It means the top is no longer spring loaded, but I don't give a damn now that I can play my games....
