Best material/ paint for projector screen?

I have an older projector,(lightware vp800) that I am using for a home theatre, gaming application. I have have been trying to figure out a good paint mixture to use to create the screen on my wall. I know about screen goo, I am looking more for a mixture I could get from ocal hardware store. and what would be best for my Projector, it has good piicture, but darker images(horror, games such as HALO2,) tend do look VERY dark would a silver or white screen be better for this application?

from what i have read a silver screen would be best with white a very close second.
