Hi all. Im still quite new at this business so please be patient with me. Im using Nero 5.5.9.9 and when I use the wizard to create a dvd video I get the following error message:
Required video_TS.ifo not present
Required video_TS.bup not present
Required VTS_01_0.bup not present
DVD video compliance test failed
I use DVD Decrypter to rip the disk and Ifo edit to do the downsizing. Does anyone have any idea as to what Im doing wrong or where the problem is? Many thanks.

Are all those files in a folder named: VIDEO_TS?
When using Nero dont use the wizard, just select the DVD-rom(UDF) or DVD-rom(iso/udf) modes and go from there. Then you can drag your VIDEO_TS folder in the burning area.

I was unsure exactly how to do it without the wizard. When I use the normal nero interface ti create a dvd it automatically creates two folders on the project disc for video and audio. Should I place the VOB files in the video folder or leave them outside it. The thing that confused me was that I dont have any audio files as such just VTS_01_0.IFO, VTS_01_01.VOB, VTS_01_02.VOB etc

Put all the files you get in the VIDEO_TS folder in Nero(not in another folder inside it just as they are) the AUDIO_TS folder should be empty so don't worry about it.
Required video_TS.ifo not present
Required video_TS.bup not present
Required VTS_01_0.bup not present
These files should be in there if you don't have them report back

I ripped a copy of Minority Report that I own just to get a feeling of what to do and the only files in the destination folder are the VOB files (1-7) and an IFO file

That's why you have a problem then
If you had burned it it wouldn't have worked anyway so be thankful that Nero told you!
What did you rip it with?

What i do is rip the movie files to my VIDEO_TS folder that i created. After using ifoedit to strip and get sectors. I open Nero and select DVD-rom (UDF) mode, making sure NO multisession, physical partition1.02 is selected. Drag the VIDEO_TS folder into box on the left, then hit write. The burning process begins...

Whoa there rubberman
one step at a time
first thing that is needed is the right files in the first place if he/she has the wrong files and tries your method they will end up with a coaster, at least using the Nero wizard it won't let you burn it with files missing.
So let's find out why there are files missing from JMcQueen's rip.
Sometimes DVD decypter doesn't bring these files over. If you are stripping in IFOedit make sure that the box is ticked to recreate IFO's
If you are splitting the disc then IFO edit doesn't recreate the IFO's properly and you have to have it do it manually by having IFOedit create them.

I assume you mean under VOB extra's? yes I have it checked. Also without wanting to go off topic some of the copies that Ive done on other discs playback in black and white on my domestic player. Got any ideas as to why this is?

BTW
In DVD decytper you need to select the above mising files manually if you haven't set it to rip everything. If you are starting out I suggest you set it to rip everything and then strip out what you don't want, it's easier to start with.
Regarding the B&W issue, the only thing I can think of is a region setting, before I had my machine chipped to multi region it played 'region free' discs in black and white.

You need to have these files to burn just a movie DVD.
VIDEO_TS.IFO
VIDEO_TS.BUP
VTS_01_0.IFO
VTS_01_0.BUP
VTS_01_1.VOB
VTS_01_2.VOB
VTS_01_3.VOB
VTS_01_4.VOB
Use the Nero Wizard and place all the files in the VIDEO_TS folder. Piece of cake. (The number of VOB files will differ)

Also the VTS_01_x.vob could vary from movie to movie. Some movies it may be other than VTS_01_x.vob. But you will want to rename them to VTS_01_x.vob if its not.

When you strip and recreate Ifo files, the VOB files of the movie will be the first title such as VTS_01_1.VOB. I have NEVER had to rename files.
