DVD burner no longer reads DVD-Rs

Hi all,

I have a real strange problem. I have a NEC 1300 DVD burner and have not had any problems with it for years.

My system recently crashed and to make a long story short, I ended up formating the C: drive and re-installing Windows XP from scratch.

Every thing is working OK. However my NEC 1300 does not seem able to read DVD-R discs anymore.

The DVD-R discs are fine and I can read them them in my laptop DVD-ROM drive.

The drive can read ordinary DVD discs (e.g. movie DVDs).

The drive can read CD-R discs and CDs.

But not DVD-R discs (and it was this DVD burner that burnt the discs).

I have tried several things:

The NEC 1300 has the latest firmware (I upgraded long before the system crash, so it is not a firmware problem).

I tried to find later Windows drivers (Windows says I have the latest).

I cleaned the DVD drive lens.

I tried serveral different DVD-R discs (and verified they are OK in my laptop).

I uninstalled the drive, let windows re-detect it and install it again.

The drive is working because I can read DVDs, CD-Rs and CDs.

I ran Nero info tool and it detected no problems (with the DVD-R in it says the media has 1 track, it is a data disc).

I am out of ideas.

Does anyone have any idea how to fix this ? FYI: it is a Windows XP Pro system with Service Pack 2 installed and a NEC 1300 DVD burner R and R+ supported. I also have Nero 6.6 installed and if you need it can post the info from Nero info tool.
