Hooking Up An ilo DVD Recorder DVDRH04

Currently I have Cox Digital Cable. I have a digital box that has the cable going in and then going out straight to my TV. When I hooked up my ILO DVDRH04, I took the cable out from the Digital Cable Box and plugged it into the ILO DVDRH04, then from that the out on the ILO DVDRH04 to my TV. I plugged the red, white, and yellow from the ILO straight to the back of my TV. Now, heres my problem, When my Digital Cable Box is on I cannot use the ILO. I have to turn off the box and then on my tv's remote push the button (INPUT) this switched over to use the cables in the back of the tv. So I'm using the ilo to view the channels but they dont all show, I can only get up to channel 70. So my question, is my connection set up correctly and being used properly? My Digital Cable has a tv guide and i would liek to use that but I would also use the time shift with the ILO. Am I expecting this ILO DVD Recoreder to act more like a pvr or is my connection screwed up so that I'm not able to use the Cable Box and ILO together at the same time? Sorry for the long paragraph
