Please help - How do you record from a DVD to the Hard Drive?

Hi everyone - I need some help please. I am new to this and not quite sure I am doing everything correctly.
I bought the Ilo DVDRH04 yesterday, upgraded the firmware from Ilo's website - also enabled the region free code, which works great. The problem I am having is that I am unable to record ANY DVD's to the hard drive. I thought that one was able to do this. I tried a movie I had made from a digital camera - I know that is not copy protected. I have tried original movies, and also copied movies that don't have any copy protection.
Please can someone advise me as to how to copy DVD's to the hard drive? I would be very grateful.
When I go into the setup to copy a movie to the Hard drive, it keeps telling me to insert the disk - I am able to play the movie in the machine but it will not copy it.

Any help would be very much appreciated.
