Hi, Can anyone help? I'm fed up of downloading very poor quality movies that are more often than not, filmed in the back of a cinema or something and have very bad sound and picture quality. I have noticed when I have backed up retail DVD's that a VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS file is created. I am asuming that these are the movie broken down into computer data format or something. Why aren't people sharing these types of files instead of dodgy mpegs, avi's etc? If there are any ways of downloading the proper formats, can someone please let me know how and where to find them etc?

Many Thanks!!!

there are certain networks that have channels on IRC that are DVD rips in full form only, but i would consider finding a good network with high quality avi's before trying to download dvd rips that are upwards of 4.4 GB. Many movies on IRC are high quality Divx or Xvid rips that are just converted to a smaller form (ie .avi) that have pretty darn good quality for only 700 MB.

if you want better quality you'll just have to wait until a dvd-r/rip surfaces(usually released a couple of months/weeks before dvd retail date). the reason 'CAMS' and 'TSs' are so popular is because they are released a couple of days after if not before the theatrical release date and some people want to see the movies straight away and dont care about quality, although there are some pretty watchable cam jobs of movies out there ;). you can find the files on torrent websites, or as jchamber suggested xdcc bots(irc), the files being as big as they are rarely trickle down to p2p apps like kazaa, limewire ect ect(in their original form anyway). cams are usually released as VCD, while high quality TS's are released as SVCD, some groups re-encode these releases to 700mb avis or even lower which worsens the already questionable quality.

the order of formats that are released of a certain movie over time(usually):.
low quality cam job(vcd)
higher quality TS -telesync-(svcd)
if your lucky, even higher quality TC -telecine-(svcd)
screener-vhs rip-(vcd)
dvd Screener-promotional dvd-(svcd, dvd-r if its good enough)
retail dvd(released as dvd-r, SVCD and high quality avi).

Can you advise me on which IRC's are best to try for this?

IRC
you can use any irc client you wish, but with mIRC being the most popular of the clients heres the tutorial for it:. http://www.ircmadeasy.com/modules.php?name=mIRC

irc search engines:. http://www.packetnews.com - http://www.ircspy.com (there are alot more but these two are usually the best to find what your looking for)

bittorrent
again there are many bittorrent clients out there, some are better than others, BitTornado and Azureus are the most popular and probably the best. heres the very comprehensive guide for setting up bittorrent:. http://btfaq.com/serve/cache/1.html

BT search engines:. http://www.torrentspy.com - http://www.isohunt.com - http://www.thepiratebay.org - http://www.torrentreactor.net

and the list goes on, but those four sites seem to be the most popular.
