new dvd rw can't read blank or copied cd's

hi my problems is that i have two optical drives on my system. a new samsung ts-552u dvd-rw and an used samgung sm-304b combo dvd-r/cd-rw. dvd functions on both drives are fine can read and write no problem. but it is different story with cd media. neither drive can read any new blank cd (tried different brands)or any burned cd's but both drives will read original cd's of music or data. i have uninstall & reinstalled drivers and drives, uninstalled nero & reinstalled with no change. any ideas? anyody? please !!!!
