Problem with Matshita UJDA720 DVD Burner

My laptop came loaded with the Matshita UJDA DVD Burner and I've used it successfully many times to burn CDs. REcently, however, I bought Roxio Easy DVD Copy so that I can quickly make copies of local talent shows that I burn onto DVD-Rs using a separate Panasonic DVD REcorder. The reason I want to use the Roxio program instead of just dubbing copy after copy on the Panasonic Recorder is that using Roxio cuts the copy time by 75% and I have 100+ copies to burn. The problem I'm having is that after I cache the movie into the Roxio program, a message comes up that says that I can only copy the cached program onto DVD-RAM. I need to copy onto DVD-R. My buddy bought the same Roxio EAsy DVD Copy and he has no problem - the message that comes up says he can copy onto DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD RAM, etc, etc. His is a new computer - I don't know what DVD burner program he has - it's not the Matshita. Am I doing something wrong or is the Matshita just not capable of burning DVD-R? If the latter, is there a download I can access somewhere that will update the program and fix the problem? Thanks for any advice.
