I have successfully burned many dvds using cyber director and dvd it, but the results are not professional quality (especially with scenes that have alot of action). I have tried to improve quality of my avi to mpeg-2 compression by using tmpgenc and have sucessfully rendered a .m2v file. This file can be played with windows xp media player but I have not found a utility that will burn this. Can someone tell me what the procedure is for converting avi files to mpeg-2 and burning them with top quality result. Please help!
Thanks, -Will

this is interesting cause an .m2v file is a video file.
you said you played it and its fine, what about the audio?
anyway, you need to author a m2v file to vobs.
i usually use maestro but you also need an .ac3 audio file to go with it.

Thank you Thingimij and groove booth for repling, I appreciate it.
When I encoded with tmpgenc I chose the ES (Video Only) stream type. I did this to try to isolate just the video. My main problem with Dvd It and Power Director was the blocky picture when watched on a console unit (no problem with audio). I read in one on line guide not to compress the audio as it is not necessary. I'll try again and choose some different stream types. But I have most deffinitely gotten a .m2v file from my out put. Groove, what stream type do you use and are you starting with an avi. I am exporting avi files from premiere primarily (any other sugestions).

Thanks- Zilver

You can set tmpgenc to use a variable bitrate instead of a constant bitrate, takes longer but you get a better quality picture. Then use an authoring prog like spruceup for your m2v files to create your vob files.
