I would also recommend Bearshare...I've only been a party of aD for about a month and I've recommended Bearshare about 5 times...they should hook me up for advertising...lol.

Seriously tho, Bearshare is fantastic for music and some vids...I've been using it for quite some time and have never not been able to find a song that I wanted. I use plain ol Bearshare but there is also Pro and Lite I used Pro for a while but to tell you the truth its the same as plain ol...never used lite but have heard good things about it.

If you chose Bearshare after you have installed it run a antispyware app to kill the adware that comes with it (or run ad-aware)...after you've killed the adware your good to go...happy downloading...argh maity

Hey nicoley,

LOL!!! How many times has this been asked!!! It happens all the time, but this should get you an answer.

;)

Anyways...you should find this helpful:

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/170298
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/178378
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/175871

BTW...there is no best, only what YOU think is the best! Everyone has there own opinion and preferace, some like programs like Limewire/BT/Azureus/Bearshare....so you have a lot to choose from. I would suggest trying out several and see what YOU like. Because what works for one doesn't necessarily work for others. There are many p2p programs, so just experiment and see what you like.

;)

Yup, you bet I did, cause it is always going to be the same responses from people.

I mean, there are like 5 threads that people have said what they use and what they get from it. So, yeah, it saves alittle time.

;)

Not trying to be rude, but all the info is there so, all people have to do is read it.

DC++ and WinMX (with the QualityMovies server) are the best I have found by far!! Sure, you can find "The Incredibles" on any of these programs but only on these two have I found multiple sources for the rarest of movies.

Bearshare? Problematic for me because of having a router. E-Donkey? Same problem. Limewire? It's part of the gnutella network like Bearshare, so no!! Kazaa? It's crap now. Ares? Good for brand new movies, but I couldnt even find the original Frankenstein movie on there.

DC++ and WinMX are the simplest to use and offer the best files in my experience. No time-consuming crap like trying to find a torrent to use with bit-torrent. Like rare cartoons from 20's to the 00's? WinMX is definiteley the way to go for that. DC++ is awesome for movies, games, apps, AND music.

Hi There. Thank you to everyone that responded. I'm a big dummy. I really don't even know what a torrent is or a bit torrent and there is a bit of other jargon that I don't know. I feel like, "where do you get to know this?" Anyway, I suppose I can look that stuff up and try and figure it out, but I probably still won't get it. Are these downloading sites for burning? or for mp3 players? or what? Sorry that I'm so ignorant in computers. I just got mine and I'm a girl. What can you expect? HA! Please help. I need a teacher! :)

No you're not...you just didn't know what was out there to use.

Read some of the guides in the GUIDES section. I used to use Limewire ALL the time, and thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread, but then I wanted to see what all the hub bub was all about because Torrent stuff was always getting mentioned. Well, did a little research, got a good client...and now get some really cool things off sites.

You just answered your own question. If you ask, you will get an answer, but if you ever really want to know something, I would suggest doing a quick search in AfterDawns search menu to see if it has been brought up before, and if not....ask away!

but I probably still won't get it.
Yes you will, you don't need a degree in order to use anything on this site.

Ok, for burning and mp3 players, yes. However, mp3 players, can obviously, play online mp3's. But if I were you, just use a p2p client, such as Limewire to get mass amounts of mp3's. If you want movies, hit torrent sites.

Torrent sites have EVERYTHING, full music albums, latest movies that were JUST released, old movies, um....lol....porn, and any other movies that you can possibly think of. Like games? Guess what, torrent sites can hook you up, for the pc, and pratically any console, but most specifically Xbox, PS2, and PC.

No, you're not. You just have to learn like the rest of us did. Don't kick yourself for it.

LOL!!! Ok, but being a girl, doesn't make you stupid or anything...!

;P

If you want, I'll be more than happy to help. But I will always tell you to search for your answer BEFORE asking the question. But yeah, I'll definately help ya out!

I agree with Venom, "best" is an opinion and everybody has one. I have used MinMX, Morpheus, eMule and KLR (Kazaa Lite Resurrection). Music, documents, images, video, programs... all available.

I like WinMX, but there are a few users our there that have strange ideas on sharing. If you don't have anything they want, they will kill your download regardless of how much you share.

I haven't used eMule (which server?) or Morpheus (seemed slow) much, but I have used KLR a bit. KLR is adware free :) (God I hate adware!), but there can be leaches (people who download without sharing).

I will have to look into a couple of the others mentioned here though ;).

Thanks to RIAA and MPAA a lot of people have gotten nervous about using these programs (Wangho said Kazaa is crap now). If you want a private P2P try Grouper, Qnext ... They share only with the person or small group you connect to. This limits the selection, but you don't have to worry about big brother watching.

Hmmm... I wonder what this does?

You can remove all of the adware from the dl of bearshare. There is no adware requred for bearshare to run. You will not (well never say never) be send adware from a third-party while running bearshare just because your running bearshare. You can set your firewalls port range up to allow bearshare to only access a port range it needs...thus no openings that shouldnt be.

You can get adware/spyware/malware from any other p2p just as likely as from bearshare or anything else for that matter...simply put "if you set sails with the Pirates your going to get shot at." It is up to you to protect your machine. Running Bearshare, Limewire, DC++, Bit Torrents And Any other Fileshareing Software Increases Your Chance of Infection.

You can do things to protect yourself but unfortunately the only way to remain infection free is to practice Pirate Abstinance.
