Whats up guys,

What do you guys recommend as a new burner???

I am in the market for a new drive ($100-$175). Should i go duel layer? What brand/model? Should i wait out all together and not get a new drive right now??

Unless you are going to burn 5gb+ data dvds in one then theres not much point of spending a lot more money for a dual layer, the media are also pretty expensive. I have a NEC and it works great, go to your local computer shop and see what they have and see if you can find it cheaper.

Asus A8N-E
Amd Athlon 64 3000+ (O/C from 1.8gz to 2.05gz)
1GB Crucial
128mbmb ATI Radeon X700
280GB Seagate HD
Windows XP Pro SP2
NEC 3540A 16x DVD±RW

Are we talking internal dual layer burners, or external?
Try newegg.com for best price. Internal NEC 3520 dual layer burner for $52 + shipping is great price on good quality burner available in three diferent colors.

Thanx stan,

I know i can find them both kinda cheap, and for $100-$200 what do you recommend. Just go for a good single layer or a regular duel layer, even though i will not be burning duel layer at this time!! Costcos has one for $89.

$52 NEC 3520 at Newegg.com is best deal around. Quality is on par with Pioneer, just a shade below Plextor. This is a 16X burner that has dual layer burning capability (albeit at slower speed).

I just bought a Refurbished plextor PX-716 for $80 on Newegg.com

Do you think this was a good idea, since it is refurbished??

I still have time to cancel the order!!

I have no experience with refurbished products, but would rather have the new NEC for $30 less.

I would go with a dual layer burner (duel layers may want to confront each other).

I would recommend a new, rather than a refurbished burner (it probably something that someone has had problems with and returned it repair).

There are many dual layer burners on the market at very reasonable prices (well under $100).

My preferences would be:

Pioneer
Plextor
LiteOn
NEC
