Hiya all...

I'm hoping someone can help me out here.

I have used Nero 6 & Pinnacle's Instant CD/DVD to burn my discs for a good while now. I've had problems with both in the past - some of which seem to have oddly cured themselves.

This is my latest problem...

I use 2 types of DVD both of which have worked in the past - if not on my Sony DW-U18 on my old NEC1300A. Now they seem to have hit some problem. I've wasted umpteen discs due to failed burns in both apps, sometimes caused by a power calibration error. Tis was while burning in a non-multisession method.
I tried doing a multisession yesterday - even though some of the DVDs are likely to be used with win98, and amazingly the burn was successful... I just couldn't access it - even on this XP machine I used to burn it.

I thought that finalising the disc might do the trick but when I tried this the burn failed almost immediately.

Any ideas please?!?

...One last thing I'd like to ask is how can I tell if my drives are gear or belt driven without opening them?
