CAn you download a film as a torrent then put it on your PSP after it has been compressed enough through the USB lead.

It's a good thing for me that there are ways to get video onto my PSP like this. I'm not going to purchase a UMD 'compressed to hell' movie for $24.99 that I overpaid $19.99 for already on DVD no matter how much I love the film.

I would never pay for a movie when I can just get it onto a memory stick.

I'm with you on that philipman. I already have a portable DVD player for movies on the go. I'm not hard up enough for the sake of convenience to need a UMD just to play on my PSP. Any man does Sony have my demographic nailed. Every one of their UMD movies to date are AAA titles for me that I really like.

Have you played movies from the memory stick yet? How is the quality?

Movies on UMD are formatted completely to provide the same quality display on the PSP's smaller screen as on regular DVDs. The UMDs are 1.8GB which is plenty of space for an "uncompressed" movie designed for the smaller screen. Movies even on the $350 2GB mem stick duo are terrible quality compared to UMDs because of the software conversion done at home.]. A hour and twenty minute movie on the 1GB is noticibly crappy and the 2GB is tolerable, but become pixelated under extreme load(action movies).

What is the process that gets you the best quality movies on a memory stick and what size of memory stick is preferable.

PSP video 9 works for me, a 2GB stick is too expensive $350, you probally won't find a one gb for awhile but I would go with a 1GB when they come back in stock.

Huh? The quality isn't influenced by the fact that it's on a UMD or on the memorystick. The movies you buy already on UMD are likely using the full 1.8gb of capacity--that's why they look so good.

And there aren't blank UMDs available yet (they might never be).

The video is processed much better, "professionally". Just like DVD Decryptor can make slightly better copies than DVD Shrink, the conversion method can make a difference. Also the framerate and sound cannot be set to a quality higher than the transfer rate of memory stick which is assumedly much slower than the read rate W/laser. The ad that I read in the middle of the forum was pretty stupid, do they thing that I can't just go to my local best buy and buy ten more psp's? No store where i'm at is actually sold out.
