How do you finalize the DVD?

I just got the Sanyo DRW-500 and tried recording a VHS videotape to CD. It seems to work as it plays back on the Sanyo but I can't put it in another DVD player and have it work. From what I have read it sounds like I need to finalize the DVD but I can't find anything that tells me how to do that. I'm using DVD+R disks. Any help would be appreciated.
