I simply label the DVD copy with a Sharpie. If I want the artwork, I do the label cover for the case. After all, the DVD is either in the case or in the player and should only be seen during transfer. Seems a lot of time invested for such a short viewing period. To each his own hobbies I guess.
Compressing, encoding and transcoding are talking about the same end, getting a larger source to fit a smaller target. Transcoding cuts out parts while encoding disassembles and reassembles the DVD files for best bitrate. Encoding takes longer, but does a better job. If you're happy with DVD95copy, there's nothing wrong with that. If you want the best quality, give Rebuilder a try. There's a free version with free encoders.
As for DVD95Copy, what can it do that Shrink can't? I've used Shrink long enough to know that it compares favorably with any transcoder it's been put up against. Its failing is that it may not be as fast as some, but it's not too slow and it's free. Quality Settings allows it to handle fairly heavy compression. Those of us with encoder software automatically switch to the encoding programs when compression starts climbing over 20% (unless we're just in a hurry or checking the limits of a transcoder program). If you want a retail transcoder that's fast, good quality, and has a lot of options, check out DVDCopy 6 Plus.

Last I noticed InterVideo is still selling the DVDCopy 5. Since InterVideo and Corel merged, they're now selling an upgraded program Corel DVDCopy 6 plus. 6 is actually a good upgrade over 5 and does more with the mobile formats.

A couple of days ago I needed to split my copy of the new pirate movie, clone would,nt do it, ZoSoIV recomended to give copy6 a shot, it has a 30 day trial, it worked great, it was easy to understand and hardly any config's for comp. dummies like me, 5stars. Thanks ZoSoIV.
I know, I could have done it with the DL's, splitting it with reg. dvd's is still alot cheaper.

ZoSo
Fredbun nailed one of the big difference. They've made the Copy 6 interface easier than previous versions. It doesn't take much study to understand how it works. I've not had it long enough to really give it a good trial. However, it has the functionality of DVDCopy 5 with the addition of the newer mobile formats. It's really more like a good upgrade than a different program. Last time I checked, InterVideo was still selling both DVDCopy 5 and the 6 PLus.

CloneDVD does split movies. You need to read the instructions on how to use the program.

As bilbo65 has pointed out CloneDVD will infact split the movie and give you fully functional menus. Here is a guide on how to accomplish this CloneDVD 1:1 guide

Where've you been bb?
As for splitting DVDS, my old DVDXCopy does a good job. I still like the Copy 6 better though and there's no need to read guides. ;)
I guess if a person wants to save a few bucks by doing the reading, that's a good deal, as long as they already own the software or want to use something free like the VobBlanker. I wouldn't advise buying CloneDVD 2 though because there's so much more that programs like Copy 6 can do. A big for instance is that once again Slysoft saw a way to make a few extra bucks. They sell CloneDVD Mobile for the mobile formats. That's included in Copy 6.
Copy 6 is a transcoder and conversion program. Copy 6 is a well organized program with an easy interface that records video in AVI, mobile formats, and DVD and does conversions between the different formats. It's one of those "do most everything" programs that does the job well. Use the free DVDFab HD Decrypter and you've got just about all the software needed to do a bunch of different backup jobs with different formats.

what about regional codes, such as PAL do any of these programs offer a conversion from them to the format we use here in the US?

that's such a pain that you'll be better off getting a multi-region player.

I've never needed to do two discs like that before and besides some of the help files I've seen aren't too swift.

@garmoon....
I was only making a general comment since this keeps cropping up with statments that this and that program will not do such and such. Just reading the help files will at least tell you what it can do. And if one is so inclined to learn further, guides like bbmayo's have been educating people for quite a while, very successfully

Hi guys,
I Have been around just not posting to much (I am always watching) LOL.
I agree there are many other ways to skin a cat, but FredBun already has CloneDVD so there is no need to go convince his wife to buy another proggie as he can achive what he wants with CloneDVD. There is also a guide at my sight created by sadsac which shows how to use Vobblanker as well. Frankly I have used both ways and Clone DVD is much easier. I really dont do this at all other than to test it out. If the movie is that big I just use a dual layer disk, but everyone has there own prefferences. As far as Copy 6 goes I have been preaching about DVDCopy 5 forever it is by far the best transcoder available. It will produce the best quality when it comes to transcoding (it's been proven search AD). Now if you arent doing a lot of compression then all of them will work fine and if you are going to do a lot of compression then spend your money on rebuilder instead of Copy 6 is my suggestion. For the record I pretty much only use three proggies now a days, DVDFab Decrypter, or AnyDVD and Nero Recode. They work perfectly fine and get done what I need done quickly.
Cheers all

How would it stack up against DVD2One then? I've not tried any of the DVDcopy software yet, but I'm very happy with the speed and quality of DVD2One.
