need help w/SID mechasault softmod on v1.6 box

Guys I'm stuck. First let me say that I've read alot of tutorials in alot of places to get to this point. Everything I read says that SID.mechassault.v2.0.xbox-hq will work to modify my v1.6. I got it and used gamesave manager to load it into my modded box, then saved from there to my mem. card and from my mem card to my unmodded v1.6. But when I loaded the game and chose "RUN LINUX" my screen just goes black. i got the SID from the usual places so I'm sure it's good. My xbox(according to chart on xbox scene) was made in march of 05, is it too new?

You need:
router, hub, or crossover cable
SmartFTP (most people use FlashFXP)
Action Replay
Action Replay 8MB Memory Card (comes with the action replay)
Mech Assault, 007: Agent Under Fire, or Splinter Cell (not plantinum)
gamesave exploit for any of the games above(download softmod installer deluxe)
Once you have gotten those things, change your IP address to 192.168.0.1. Install Action Replay. Get the gamesave exploit from softmod installer deluxe and then drag the .zip file into the action replay PC Database. Drag it then into the memory card. Wait til its done then put it in the xbox controller. Leave the tray open and go to memory. Go to the memory card, go to the individual gamesave (not the game) and click copy. Go play the game. Load up the gamesave that says Run Linux (i think). Then backup your C drive and click install softmod. Then install either unleashx or evox (choose evox, its cooler). Now to get into the dashboard, you need to boot a game (chooose one, doesn't matter) and when the game is successfully loaded (shows like the menu for first player, multiplayer, options whatever), then open the tray and leave it open. The dashboard should come up. There you go! For ftping into your xbox:
1. for the IP, put in: 192.168.0.2.
2. For the username and password: xbox
3. Done!

Thanks don_omar. So gamesave manager is the problem? I have to boot a game every time I wanna get into evox? I didn't know that. that's a pretty big con to softmodding. Is there a way to boot the new dash just by turning on the box?

007 Agent Under Fire, Mechassault, or Splinter Cell (Not the re release, must be the old ones).
These games have an exploit which leaves the MS dash open to install evo x, therefore soft modding the xbox

Hey thanks don-omar. that stuff worked great. But after I install evox(before I use game to boot)should I be concerned w/the patch MS 5960 option on the install screen? Hope I'm not bothering you man.

What game did u use for the softmod installer ?
I what step did u get wrong ?
The Xbox is booting from the dashboard or u still need to access it thru the game ?

I used Mechassault hack, and the AR you suggested. Apparently either the version of gamesave manager that i have is corrupted or Gamesave manager is not compatible w/the SID Meccassault v2.0. I originally misunderstood what you were saying about using the game to boot the dash. I thought you meant that I would have to do that everytime I turned on the box. I've got a million other questions about how to install apps and emulators. But I'm going to do some more reading before officially asking.

do u have a friend that has modded softmod the xbox already ?
do u know how to use Flash FXP program?
if the answer is yes .... then
put the modded xbox to a router, that mean that you gonna be able to enter the xbox folders (examples c:, e:, f: and D: dvdrom) using the Flash FXP, copy the files from the C: folder and the E: (xbox files) to your computer.
Then put the unmodded xbox to the router, that mean that you gonna be able to enter the xbox folders (examples c:, e:, f: and D: dvdrom) using the program Flash FXP, put the games mess asault or 007 Agent under Fire, (remember to have already the exploit file of the game installed on your xbox hardrive) when loading the save exploit file the screen goes black and ready to install UDA, but leave it like that, dont do anything. (is like leaving a computer in ms-dos prompt)Use the program Flash FXP and enter the xbox files folders (example c:, e:, f:) and erase everything, then remember the copy folders from the MODDED XBOX on your computer? paste those files on your UNMODDED XBOX and when you finish. Restart the xbox and you would have the same settings and same programs as your friend MODDED xbox have.

One thing that you may not be thinking of, is that when you try to load these gamesaves, you need to make sure that any of the download content for those games must be deleted b4 trying to do the softmod.
Thats what I found out from what a friend of mine told me.

Hey betatstr My problem (and I hope this isn't too little too late) is that I was originally using the program xbox gamesaves manager to load the mechassault hack to my xbox hdd. What I ended up having to do was go out and buy the action replay for xbox. It comes w/a mem card and usb mem card port so you can use it to put the hack on the mem card and then use the mem card to put the hack on the xbox hdd. After that all you have to do is put the game in and run linux to begin your softmod. If you have any questions feel free to pm me.

hey guys hopefully someone can help me... i get the save "Run Linux" off of codejunkies.com and i cant seem to find a save that works. maybe it is somthing im doing wrong.. i dont know. whut i do is i get the save off of codejunkies.com n drag it to my memory card. then i go to the dashboard and copy the save to my hard drive. then i run mechassault go to campaign load run linux n it will go to a blank screen nothing happens. and on certain game saves i use it will go to a blank screen with green writing saying that my xbox needs service. could somebody plz give me a link to a game save that will work. or sumone tell me whut im doing wrong?

ok wow its been awhile since i posted here, i got my xbox working and have made some back ups that work flawlessly and i have a 1.6 but the method is the same for all xbox versions. if you still have problems im me on aim : NintendoBT
i know a guy who made this awsome softmod that i use, it actually lets you go on xbl

wow, ok since i have posted my last post on this thread i have had tons of im's asking for help and im pretty sure all of them are satisfied and have running softmodded xbox's and since this is the 2nd link you get if you type 'softmod help' in google i might as well say i will help anyone that IM's me on aim. im usually on most of the time so if you need the help dont hesitate to IM me

hey guys
im a real nooby with puttin the softmod together. but what i got so far was Action Replay and i found the mechassault run linux at codejunkies.com. so i copied the run linux to my hard drive on the xbox then put in mechassault and was able to run linux. the only problem is that most of the wording was in french but i was able to install the linux. after installing everything if gave me this weird dashboard and most of it was in french and i dont know what to do next. then next big thing is that it now doesnt allow me to sign into xbox live and im just frustrated with it then i just left it alone. i really wannt to get my xbox live working and i can really care less about the softmod right now. do you guys know what i should do?? plz help
