I just purchased a Liteon 5045 DVD recorder to archive some TV shows and movies off satellite that I enjoy. The quality of the DVD's I've made in the SP mode on the Liteon are very good and are indistinguishable from the source material. The problem occurs when I try and play these DVD's in my Pioneer DV-563A. The Pioneer's front display registers trhat's it's loading then indicates "STOP". I cannot get the DVD's to play on that unit. However these same DVD's will play on my Samsung DVD player and my cheap Cyberhome DVD player. When these DVD's do play on these two players....I get a thumbnail screen displaying the file on the DVD...I have to select it to play the movies.....as compared to regular DVD's which autorun or display a menu. The Pioneer just stops and displays nothing on the screen except the pioneer logo.

I have taken the DVD that wouldn't play..and ran it though DVD shrink on my computer, backed it up and created a new DVD and it plays fine on the Pioneer DVD player. Which tells me that there is something in the file structure that the Pioneer can't identify or doesn't like. the Pioneer doesn't seem to identify the recorded DVD as a DVD when it's placed in the tray and closed.

I noted the following differences between the DVD I authored using DVD Shrink and the one that was created on the Liteon recorder.

First....the DVD created with the Liteon has two directories on the Disc VIDEO_TS and VIDEO_RM compared to the normal directories I create with Nero (AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS). There is also a difference in the size of two of the files when compared from the LITEON and DVD Shrink DVD's.

The first file that shows a difference in size is the VIDEO_TS.VOB, The liteon size is 160KB while the DVD Shrink file size is 50KB
the last file difference is the final file of the VTS-01_5.VOB's
Liteon size is 147,880KB while DVD Shrink size is 146,844KB (I'm not concerned with the last file as it is partof the movie and shouldn't affect start-up in the Pioneer.

I hate to buy another DVD player just so I can play all my DVD's anywhere in the house...but I also hate to think I'll have to back up all my Liteon created DVD through DVD shrink and re-burn them just to play on one of my players.

Any ideas? Suggestions? Recommendations?

I'm stumped!
