I have the Sanyo and finally got used to all the quirks and crummy customer support. However, I had to buy a second unit for my office and decided to try the LiteOn which was rated pretty good by PCWorld magazine.
I now use the LiteOn almost exclusively. The menus are a lot friendlier, I have yet to make a "coaster" and the interface is intuitive and reasonable. It also finalizes and closes the DVD in far less time than the Sanyo unit. One other BIG difference is that the Liteon starts recording immediately - not this BS of a 4-5 second delay where the image is frozen. Not usually a big deal, but it is if you need to catch the beginning scenes of a program.
Sanyo was a real disappointment. It still does a decent job of recording but could have been packaged in a much more "user friendly" interface.
