Hello! I too own the Sony KDFWE655 and it is an astonishing machine (sometimes); I've experienced the same problems with the picture though ... when I sit and watch something in HD, the picture is so astonishing that I think maybe someone slipped some sort of drug into my drink! It's that good! But regular programming was disappointing. I was told that it was a common problem with all large screens and my friends with large screens have all noticed the same thing. It was explained to me that like enlarging a photograph, the little flaws are likewise enlarged. I noticed something that led me to believe this: I have comcast digital and when I hit the TV guide button, the picture is reduced to about 25-26 inches in the corner of the screen while the listings occupy the rest of the screen. When the picture is reduced to that size, the picture is much better. When I went to tweeter and asked them to show regular cable rather than DVDs or hi-def on the large screens, the problem with the picture quality seemed to be the same regardless of the make or price tag. I've come to the conclusion that what I've been told and what I've seen in large screens is correct. Hi Def is astounding, DVDs aren't as good but still really great but regular cable just isn't wonderful (newer programming seems to be better than older). The larger screen seems to make the flaws more evident. My receiver has a video up converter which I use with the DVD player and VCR and it works rather well, I'm going try connecting my cable box to it and see if it helps; I've got it connected directly to the TV at the moment. Just out of curiosity; what type of cables are you using (RCA, S-video, compnenet?) and what input do you have it connected to? ... Gerry
