Hi there,

I have a feeling it will not support those DVD media.

I had a Philips DVD8631 and the min speed was 4x for DVD-R.

I had old DVD-R (2x) and it didn't want to do nothing with those 2x.
But they were NONAMES Elto Cheapo media !

Put one in, and see what speeds are offered to you by your burning software.

Even if they are Certified 4x and they are good quality, you might be able to burn 8x on them.

Keep us posted !

You should be ok,without knowing your exact model number. I burn a ton of high quality 4x media in both my benq 1620s that are 16x. My lowest burn speed option in dash format is 4x. Now on my plus format media,2.4x is the lowest I can get out of them.
The 4x media seems to be phasing out. You should be able to burn 4x on 8x media-it may be up to your burner's firmware.

You may run into your burner wanting to burn that 4x media at 8x. I haven't come accross that yet,but I can burn sony +1x-8x at 16x and the majority of my 8x media at 12x.

It's all up to your burner's firmware. It decides what it will burn and how fast to burn it.

What is the brand name and format of these 4x discs?

groveboy...

You should not have any problems burning if your recorder is a higher speed than your disk. Usually, the recorder will simply record at whatever the maximum DISK speed is. I never had a problem burn 2.4x disks on my 4x burner in the past (unless I used FUJI disks which seemed to give problems - as long as it was not Fuji it was fine)

When I upgraded to an 8x burner I burned 4x disks with no problems.

When I had a 16x Samsung I never had a problem burning anything. The only thing you need to be aware of, is some programs will control the speed themselves. And also, depending on what media you have, some burners will only record up to a certain maimux speed depending on what your media is - ie: -R, +R, -RW, +RW - on my Samsung, =R would record at 16x, but -R would record at no more than 8, etc
