I tried to back up a DVD (which was itself a region-free backup) by both ripping with DVD Decryper and burning ISO/UDF with Nero and using DVD X Copy but the resulting DVD only worked on my PC and PS2, not my standalone and I have no idea
why (the backup I was trying to backup did work on my standalone).

I know it's not the media I'm using as all of my other backups works fine in my standalone, and if the DVDs I'm backing up are small enough I usually just rip the files and then burn the with Nero and I've not had problems with this.

This is the first time though that I've tried backing up a backup and wondered if it's something to do with that. Any advice would be much appreciated. By the way I'm using a Pioneer DVR-105 burner

Just a suggestion!!

If it is already a backup ie dvd5.
Use dvd decryptor in ISO mode to create an image and then burn it back with dvd decryptor.

That's what I do --- works well.

Thanks for the advice. I tried it and burnt the image with Nero and it didn't work but using DVD Decrypter to burn worked fine and I also tried "Instant Backup" in VOB Instant and that worked fine OK. Guess it's just Nero, although I've not had problems with it before

Cheers

which DVD rom mode did you use in Nero? My home player would not read the disc if i burned UDF/ISO mode but played fine using the UDF mode. I switched to Primodvd to burn the VIDEO_TS and worked in every dvd player i tried.

DELL 733mhz-Pioneer104 DVD-RW/LG Electronics CD-RW
PS2 39001 w/ Magic2
Toshiba SD-1200 home DVD player

Yep there r alot of quessies regarding nero's capability of being GOOD.
It seems that originally for such an excellent CD Burning package they fell short of the fence to create dvd's.

I too changed burning from UDF/ISO to just the UDF option and solved my compatibilty issue.
I use Mydvd to 'create my own from vcd/svcd.
I am looking to aquire another burning software such as vob instant or recordnow max as I have read that these seem to be 'compatible in burning in the correct format'

This is the reply I got from Ahead regarding the incompatibility of the latest version of Nero (5.5.10.0) with standalone sets :

Dear customer,

This is a known common problem. Other users have experienced this problem. Our Engineers are aware of this problem and seeking a solution.

A patch will be implemented in the next release which will be available in about 4 weeks.
