Alright folks wondering if anyone kens whats goin on here... here's the thing...im tryin to install a game on me puter an every time i get to a specific bit on the dvd (cab4.cab) I get a data error (cyclic redundancy check). Ive trawled through a few forums an found out this means teh disc is either damaged or dirty, now heres the thing. Cleaned the disc usin proper cleaner an cleaned me dvd lens so there all sparklin...The disc works fine on me mates puter so the disc isn't damaged..

Would really appreciate any help folks could give on this one

Im runnin a Benq DW1620 wi the B7C9 firmware. At first I thought maybe upgrade teh firmware but since im a noob not really sure wich one to get an how to do it. Tried the benq website but thats about as much good as a flea fart in a hurricane

Let me just appologise beforehand if i got this stuck in the wrong forum

You should contact Benq, and ask them which is the proper firmware update. You should also ask them for instructions on how to install it, or get a friend who is computer savy to help you.

Once you learn the procedure, you won't hesitate to do it again. It is just part of the learning process.

Here is a good site for firmware information.

http://www.rpc1.com....

You should find the latest firmware for your drive there.

If you check out this site, it had different firmware versions for the bulk and pro retail benq 1620's.
http://www.americal.com/pg/dvd-burner-writer-firmware-version-upd...

I believe I have the bulk benq's in both my pcs. My main pc has the exact same B7-C9 firmware and haven't had a single issue for updating it. My newer benq has the B7-L9 firmware and performs just as good as my older one.

Is this an original game or a backup of a game?

I'm not into games, but most crc errors are on dirty/damaged/or bad pressed discs. On some of the newer dvd movie encryptions, they are giving us that same crc error so It is getting a little harder to identify if it is a bad disc or a new encryption.

When it comes to ripping,my main benq did have trouble ripping my I/O magic 16x Plus/dash/and booktyped dvd-rom format backups. My litey dvd rom had no trouble with those dash backups. If you have space for another drive,a dvd rom only rom would help ripping and speed up your process.

Re-ripping backups: Media quality can cause you not to be able to re-rip to other pc drives. Also the variations in burners can cause this.

Who's burner was this game burned on/what is brand name and model # if it isn't your benq/what is the brand name/speed rate/format/and also how fast was that game burned at?

An option you have would be pulling out the cd-rw drive and replacing it with a dvd-rom drive. You can get one at newegg.com for around $20-$30 and they are more efficient and faster at ripping.

I know when it comes to ripping other people's movie backups,it can be trickier, especially if they used piss-poor media/and/or burned too fast.I don't know about how games would re-rip,but it should be about the same.
