I bought a Ilo DVDR05 at Wal-Mart about a week ago. And have tried it out in every way I could think of recorded in all speeds and all worked great, recording on verbatim dvd+rw disk.
also played music disk I had made on my computer of a group that I play guitar for, and it played just fine also.
Also had Red Skelton shows on dvd and it played them without a hitch.
I have have only had it a week and another dvd recorder I had lasted about 2 weeks and then everything went bad.
Hope this one last. It was only $99.00
Good luck.

i also have the same question, i'm looking to buy a dvd recorder that will record dvds that will function with other brand players. i've read several things that directs me into different directions. i'm not sure if i'm understanding that the ilo-dvdr05 is good or bad because many says it isn't compatible with other brands, and then i get that it's good. i'm kind of confused. i would like a decent dvd recorder that will produce dvds that will be compatible with the apex-ad5131 because i have about 3 of them and then i have a dualband brand which is the same as apex.

anyone have a suggestion to a good/decent dvd recorder that is cheap? and has video input because i've looked up some brands and it only has output...such as the apex 9200...

... The iLo recorders that WalMart carries are made by LiteOn ...

.. I have had a LiteOn LVW-5005 for almost a year now and I record TV programs on a daily basis with it .. I have burned at least 600 discs with this recorder and am so pleased with it that I am going to buy another at the end of July .. It records +R/RW, -R/RW, SVCD and VCD and does them all very well with better compatibility than my CPU's Ricoh burner ..

. Here is a review of the unit .

I echo [ashtonjay]

The LiteOn/ilo is a good unit. I have the ILO DVDRHD04. Ilo is a Wal Mart brand, The 04 is a LiteON amd can be hacked. The 05 is a Cyberhome and cannot be hacked. I do not had any trouble playing a disk burned on the ILO in an Apex, Cyberhome, Pioneer, Go Video etc.
The LiteOn is a good choice. If you get the ilo at Wal Mart [Don't] get the 05.
