P2P - A method of distributing files over a network. Using P2P client software a client can advertise, send, or receive files with another client. Some P2P file distribution systems require a centralized database of available files (such as Napster), while other distribution systems (like Gnutella) are more decentralized.
BitTorrent - BitTorrent is a file distribution system used for transferring files across a network of people. As you download a file, BitTorrent places what you download on upload for other users; when multiple people are downloading the same file at the same time they upload pieces of the file to each other. BitTorrent pieces together the file you are downloading, to where the first part of a file you get may be the last part someone else gets. As you continue to retrieve the file, BitTorrent also uploads data to other users. For example, a person with 98 percent of the file done is directed to the people with the 2 percent of the file they still need.
The files downloaded via BitTorrent are called torrents.
Seeds - Online Peers (Users) Who have the complete file from whom your are downloading the file from.
Leechers - People who are still in the proccess of downloading the file, from whom you are also downloading the file from, but you can only download as much as currently have of the file.
IRC - Short for Internet Relay Chat, a chat system developed by Jarkko Oikarinen in Finland in the late 1980s. IRC has become very popular as more people get connected to the Internet because it enables people connected anywhere on the Internet to join in live discussions. Unlike older chat systems, IRC is not limited to just two participants.
To join an IRC discussion, you need an IRC client and Internet access. The IRC client is a program that runs on your computer and sends and receives messages to and from an IRC server. The IRC server, in turn, is responsible for making sure that all messages are broadcast to everyone participating in a discussion. There can be many discussions going on at once; each one is assigned a unique channel.
mIRC - mIRC is a shareware Internet Relay Chat client for Windows, created in 1995 and developed by Khaled Mardam-Bey. This was originally its only use, but it has evolved into a highly configurable tool that can be used for many purposes due to its integrated scripting language. Other uses include:* Automated IRC channel manager* Multiplayer game server* MP3 player* Web page parser (usually for retrieving search results or headlines)* DCC, HTTP, and IRC server* Game platform (these games are called mI

Well.. to use P2P, you should get a good app like WinMX, or Filetopia.
For BitTorrent.. BitLord is pretty good, www.bitlord.com/download.php and you can get torrents from
www.mininova.org
www.isohunt.com
www.torrentreactor.to
www.mybittorrent.com
www.thepiratebay.org
www.torrentspy.com
www.filetopia.org
As for mIRC, look on google ;)

On IRC you cant just simply search for a file. You'll have to go to a channel and specify the file you would like and wait for a kind person to send you it.
Your only downloading from one host so expect a long d/l time. If you want to download movies games etc. I Reccomend BitTorrent. The number of seeds and leechers improve your download.

goto www.slyck.com and read the guide on newsgroups. Basically you can download at your full speed without having to upload however its more complicated and unless your isp has a decent server you'll have to pay a small fee to get access to a server.

I'm a newbie when it comes to bittorrent. You mean to say bittorrent is generic? I thought it was similar to Kazaa, Limewire or WinMx.

If you ask me, bittorrant and mIRC have come and gone.
mIRC has been around since the beggining, and unless you find a small reliable group of people on your local ISP connection - the speeds are not very impressive.
The problem is, small reliable groups with fast connections = limited DL content.
Now bittorrant it a decent alternative with a HUGE selection of DL content, but the speeds aren't too shit hot either. Yeah, you can reliably get your download ~80% of the time, but sometimes have to wait a week to do so.
The best way to spend your bandwidth is inarguably with Binary Newsgroups. There is a large learning curve involved for newbies, but the time investment is well worth it. A comprehensive tutorial can be found here:
http://www.slyck.com/ng.php
I started out on Newsgroups over a year ago. Having a 1.5Mbps connection with Telus. by constant DL speed was 1.47 Mbps, or about 250 MBps, whichever you prefer.
This is by far the fastest you will get on a 1.5 connection.
Then Shaw was having a High-Speed Extreme promo, with a 5Mbps (or ~1.2MBps) connection with UNLIMITED BANDWIDTH, free for 3 months, and I signed up, but kept my ADSL as well, just in case.
My speed was freakin unreal, a constant 5MBps which in real terms means that a 4.5GB movie or game would down in about 90-100 minutes. I sucked up over 1.2 Terrabytes of data per month during the promo, and handed their modem back afterwards. Certainly a nice boost to my movie and game collection ;-)
Anyways, once you read the tutorial, you can find a cracked version of Newsleecher v1.x on Kazaa or similar p2p, install it, get it setup on your ISP News Server, and then visit:
www.newzbin.com
to find stuff to DL.
Good Luck and remember......piracy is very very wrong - only DL stuff you have originals of!!!!!
