What media are you using? Are they rated to burn faster than 4X?

I am using Fujifilm 4x dvd+r, and Maellel 4x DVD+R.
I know that it is only 4x wirite. There is away to write upto 8x speed on them.

Insert blank disk into burner, Open Up Nero Info Tools, Click "Disk". It will tell you how fast Nero will support this disk.
The media you are using are good quality (assuming that was a misspell for Maxell). I use 8X Maxell -R and they burn up to 16X however when I use 8x Maxell +R, they will only burn up to 8x. Try the 8X rated media or try the -R media to see if you can get faster than stated. Assuming you have latest firmware for burner, and assuming your DMA is enabled, and Nero Info Tools says it will support only up to 4X; then 4X is as fast as you will burn those 4X media....

Check this site out:

There is a guide "Checking/Changing DMA" that explains it very well, with pictures too.

You said u got 1.40, the most current is 1.55. For faster rip speed, flash to A09:
