First off, I'm going to start by saying. I HATE IT when my ps1 game stops working due to excessive use and scratches. Well, ofcourse, all of us know a way to fix that problem. Just copy it.
I guess we still have another problem tho. Not many of us actually have a PS1 to play our backups on. You probably can't afford a mod-chip for your PS2 either. I guess that puts it out of the question eh?
Well, not anymore. After lots of pranking around with my PS2 I've discovered a way to play PS1 Backups on an UNMODDED PS2. Yes, that's correct. Completely UNFREAKING-MODDED!
If this thread gets enough hits, I'll write a faq explaining how to do so. Otherwise...it's not as important as I thought so there's no point in making a guide.

I'd really like to know how to do this if it doesn't involved taking the drive off it's hinges or anything that would harm the PS2.

share dude!!! Share!!! If you are serious I can play my Championship Bass on a PS2 I can get for free.
The only thing that's holding me back is that the PS2 I can get is NON-MODDED.
Btw. does this work for PS2 games also?
I mean PGEN and SNES Station to be more specific
Just wondering around

Well, there's an old swap trick I've used for the longest time on the ps1. It's always worked. On every PS1 model.
Oddly enough, It still works on the PS2!!!
Okay. For those of you who own a PS1, it's a lot easier. Open your lid and insert something small in the button that lets the disc spin. (The button that lets the PS1 know that the disc is closed so it's safe to start spinning the disc)So it jams the button, thus enabling you to leave the lid OPEN!
Now, insert your PS1 original game.
After all that's said and done. Turn on the power and the disc will start to spin moderately fast. Then faster. Then, it'll slow down (as soon as it slows down, you'll hear a buzz sound, signifying that the laser just moved)
Quickly! Swap discs with a PS1 backup of your choice.
Got it? Great!
The same thing will happen again. Buzz sound and slower disc (by the way, the disc barely slows down just enough so that you can see it.)
Quickly! Swap discs again with your Original PS1 game.
Got it? Great!
Now, if you've done everything correctly so far, your screen will turn black and once again, quickly swap discs with the PS1 backup of your choice.
If everything went well enough, your backup should load and BAM! there you go, EVERY GAME WORKS WITH THIS METHOD! EVEN DINO CRISIS!
Okay, for PSTwo users, your life will be easy also. Granted you have a slim tool. Otherwise, you're gonna have to do some SLIGHT modifications.
There's two buttons that need to be pressed on the PSTwo (PSTwo is the slimline)
You'll have to take the top off your PSTwo to reach them. One is in the back and the other is on the power switch. Use your imagination. I'm sure you can find a way to keep these buttons pressed (or you could buy a slim tool)
Okay, now that those buttons are pressed. You pretty much do the swaps EXACTLY the same as for the PS1. Only, you won't hear the laser move. But, an upside to the PSTwo is that the disc starts to spin WAAAY slower than the PS1 will. (that means it's almost IMPOSSIBLE not to see) You won't be doing any swapping however, until the old PS1 logo appears. Once that happens, Everything is the same as it is on the PS1.
For PS2 users (the chubbies!)
I guess you'll need a flip-top case. And ofcourse, it's done exactly the same as above.
Hope this makes everyone's life a little easier.
And hopefully i'll get some credit for figuring this neat trick out.
Note: Once you get your timing down, you won't feel the need to rush your swaps anymore. It'd also be wise to test it on a PS1 just incase you have butter fingers. I wouldn't want to see someone rip the disc spinner off of their PS2/Two because of a missed swap.
Oh, and one more thing. Use CDRWin for the best results in backup PS1 games.
Good luck, and happy swapping.

Sorry in advance for the double post but The guide may be a little sloppy because I have little time. I'll Fix it up in a Nice step-by-step process later tonight.
Oh, if anyone has problems getting this to work, post that also and i'll check back regularly to help.
I've tested this on versions 6-10 of the PS2 and the V-12 Slim PSTwo
They all worked just fine, so I'm assuming this method works on ALL playstation systems, new, old, 1 or 2. (Even the PSX)

This swap method only works for PS1 backups. However, I've tried a few different things for PS2 backups, but no luck so far. Given some time and patience(if it's possible) I'll figure it out and when/if I do, I'll be sure to Post That here as well, as another "AMAZING DISCOVERY" thread.

Rumor has it that on a V9 ps2 you can boot PSOne backups directly if you have a memcard exploit and are using a certain version of "KeyLauncher" So in your case, there might not be much of a hassle.

It's true. Just make sure the PS1 game that you boot your exploit with has a high TOC.

It sound like a lot of effort to play old games. I bought a version of action replay for my PS2 to play backup PS2 games. However the only games I could play were my old PS1 backups, using the slidecard method. Load up action replay disk - go through the menus - when it says insert game, slide the tray open with the slidecard, put in backup, slide the tray closed, press x, and in theory the backup will play.
Also if I have understood the tutorial above correctly, the disks will be still spinning while changing the disks, sounds a little risky? Action replay stops the disk so you can take your time while swapping disks.
Don't know if this post it any use, just sharing my limited experience.

Yeah, cheers, one is in the post from ebay (I hope) I bought action replay thinking it would work as well as the action replay cartridge did in my ps1 - I was wrong.

You just make a memory card exploit. I haven't used Keylauncher in a while, but I know if you use Launchelf as your boot elf, theres an option to boot back to your PS2 browser. When you do that it boots directly to your PS2 browser, which will show it as having a PS1 game in already. At that point you just switch the PS1 game you used to boot the exploit with your backup (using the swap trick) , and push X. Personally I just play my PS1 games on my computer using ePSXe.
Anyway here's a link to Ausdigital http://ausdigital.net/ , which has Independence Complier, a tool that basically makes the exploit for you. Here's another place where you can learn tons about the exploit http://www.exploitstation.com/ . If you have anymore questions after you study up feel free to ask. :)

I used the independance compilier you said about and I got it to work. Took a wee bit of time to work out what I was doing, but got it to work anyhow. I have set it up so that when i insert my trigger disk it takes me to the PS2 browser, then i insert my PSx backup. Cheers for the help.
