Recently both of my drives stopped asking what program to use when I insert a DVD or CD. Shrink is also having problems reading the disc label.
Example: If I insert White Noise, Shrink would show E:\WHITE_NOISE in the select drive drop down box. Now it shows the label of the last disc, it shows some weird label, or I get a can't read error.
It must be something caused by a program recently installed or maybe there's a setting I need to adjust in Window? I'm guessing one of you must know the answer - thanks!!
I think the feature your talking about is called "autorun", first of all to check if they "ask me what to do" option is activated so go to my pc click on the drive you want to check on the tabs click, "Automatic reproduction" and make sure the ask me what to do option is activated, you can get a program tweak ui to change the autorun option. It is likely that a recently installed program could have caused this, I had experiences with programs that lock autorun and other features, So I will try unstalling recently instaled programs or checking it settings to see if its interfiering with the drive features, tell me how you do.
Alot of 'autorun' problems that I have come across have been caused by spyware/adaware in one form or another received from p2p sites and others.
However the simplest way is to try and reactivate them within windows first.
Double click my computer
Right click on your optical device
Click on properties
Click on autoplay tab
Select the option your require
Click OK, then close the window
Thanks guys! I ran Spycatcher and made sure autoplay was turned on, now it works again. Autoplay was turned on already for both optical drives, but I re-applied the setting just to make sure.
Since I didn't use the correct scientific approach - process of elimination - I can't say. I almost took that approach, but was lazy and just did both things before re-trying.
I would venture to say it was Spyware since the setting was already correct in "autoplay", but sometimes re-applying a setting gets it to work correctly. If it happens again I will try just Spycatcher first.
One more comment - I don't EVER go to P2P sites. I like'n that to sleeping with a hooker bareback! It's not a matter of if you will get something; just when will it show up, how bad will it be, and how much will it cost to get rid of it!

LMAO.................You and me both....................
I think p2p is the biggest influence in the spread of viruses and trojans and other STD's........LOL
Althoug P2P can spread viruses, I have learned through experience (I really dont want to remember) that you can use p2p safely if you know how to and be carefull, I use p2p a lot and no viruses or trojans had entered my PC
"If you can't run with the big dogs, stay on the porch."
I am no match for the hackers out there, so I stay on my safe "porch". I have been a victim before of spyware and browser highjacking and it's no fun! My new Sony was also hit with the Sasser bug last year.
My passive "after-the-fact" spyware programs suck. I spend most of my time scanning and deleting spyware - I need to keep it from getting there in the first place!
So far most of the stuff (links and suggested software) in the AD forums has been legit and free from viruses and such.
