How do I connect a DVD recorder to record either tapes from my VCR or directly from the Cable box. I have a cable box, a VCR and now a DVD (ILO RO4). I can get the DVD to copy tapes from the VCR, but then I lose the ability to use the VCR to record though my cable box. Any help will be appreciated. My TV is only 6 months old.

I asume that the cable box fed the VCR than went to the TV. Now its the cable box, VCR, ILo, TV. What connetions and setup are you using on each unit. It also sounds like the proper input/output seletion on each unit is incorrect.

The cable comes into my house and into a splitter. From the splitter one cable goes to the TV and the other to the cable box.

An RF cable goes from the cable box to the VCR.

An A/V cable goes out from the VCR to the TV,

An A/V cable goes out from the cable box to the TV.

An A/V cable goies out from the DVD to the TV. (This enables me to play DVD disks but not record.)

If I want to record to the DVD disks, I have to remove the A/V cable that goes from the VCR to the TV and connect the A/V cable from the DVD recorder to the VCR. This gives me the ability to record from the VCR to the DVD player, or to record from the TV (using the VCR as a conduit.). If I want to use the VCR, instead of the DVD recorder, I have to switch th A/V cables back again.

I hope this isn't to confusing. I thank you for your interest and appreciate any help you can give me.

Take the rf that goes from the spliter to the tv off the tv and send it to the vcr in and add another rf from out on vcr to in on tv that way you still control same with vcr off. When want to have vcr in control put tv on chanel 3 or 4 in some cases and select vcr mode on vcr by selecting tv/vid or tv/vcr on most then the vcr acts as tuner. That way tou will not have to remove any cable and hook to other to record anytime.

Can I asume that with your cable service you receive regular programing and than use the cable box for additioal service. Why does this require the two signal feeds to the TV. Why the splitter? Are you selecting the TV input for the signal source? If so, how can you record both signals on the VDR with this hookup? If you connect a RF cable to the TV from the VCR it will require that the VCR be on when watching TV. This should be a straight foward connection to the TV.

I may be confusing matters more with my post. When I said control with vcr off I mean the tv/vcr funtion of the vcr not the power of the vcr. With the setup I mentioned the vcr will have to be turned on.

Let me back up a bit. I think I was making this harder than it should be. I have satellite service I can only record what the satellite receiver is tuned to. I had cable service and could record one channel while watching another. That is why there are two signal feeds from the cable box Either way take the A/V cable that goes to the TV from the VCR and connect it to the ILo rear A/V input. Add another A/V cable from the ILo output and connect it to the TV at the connection the VCR cable went. Be sure to set the ILO soure signal to A/V Rear. You may get feedback that this VCR to DVD will degrade the signal. I have this onnection and can see no degrading. If you feel it exists you could use another connection that will limit your use, or use a Vedio A/V switch box

Thank you all for your invaluable advice. I followed your instructions and swithed the RF input into the DVD recorder instead of the VCR. I also swithced the A/V cables. I can now use either my DVD recorder/player or my VCR without having to swtich cables back and forth. Thanks again.

Sounds like you put the ILO DVD First, using only the ILO output,to the VCR input. the VCR output to the TV.
Is this correct? I didn't see any instructions about having the DVD first in line. If so, remember the Tuner In the ILO is Mono. I would think that you could have problems with this hookup. Can you copy VHS tape to the ILO? I should think the VCR should be First in line

You are right. I did put the VCR first. The RF cable goes into the VCR.
