win2k, buslink burner (nec chipset)

Ok for months I have been happily using it at will. Yesterday I discovered that I can no longer write. Reading works fine, error pops up when insert the media.

I have been using -r, and now I can't seem to. I tested it with a +r disc and it worked fine.

This gets even better. I'm discovered this while TRYING to use
dvdxcopy. Additionally I've since found that even in roxio apps etc it simply WILL NOT WRITE. I did however just burn a regular cd just now fine.

I unistalled roxio, dvdxcopy etc and redid them, still nada.

System is clean (ad aware and avg say so anyway) and I've tried two kinds of -r media. Nothing expensive but memorex should be ok RIGHT? lol

HELP

Memorex is crap! Most here will agree on this one.

Do you have a program called Drag to Disc installed on your computer? If so, uninstall it. It's a program that is more of a nuisance than anything and will do things like lock your drives and also accesses your drives constantly, which will screw up burn processes.

Have you tried to update the firmware on your burner?

Have you tried other software besides DVD X Copy?

I'd also remove your email addy before a mod does.

I don't consider memorex expensive. We need some media history? Brands, speed, did you change brands? Nec chipset but can you download the latest nec or buslink firmware for it? If that's possible get the latest firmware for your drive. Maybe try uninstaling drive in device manager and reboot. This sounds like a media problem, try some tiyo yuden media, possibly drive may be bad. I would try a few things first.

Good Luck

if you are using the same media as when -r worked then your drive may be bad. my first pioneer nolonger reads any dvd disk but reads cd's fine. my second dvd burner will not read any cd's anymore. and its not that old. firmware is what killed my pioneer.

I recomed system restore for windows.
Do what you gotta do and restore your cpu to an earlier time when it worked. I think you may have installed to many types of the same software.

Definitely do what BrownBomr says before you go buying new hardware.
