Hi I'm new here.
I found this place from searching
"I can't play "BUP" files on yahoo.

so, anyway...
I have a ripped DVD, that I transfered the contents to my PC by copying and pasting the video files to a folder on my computer.

The problem is all the file extensions end in "BUP"
And for some reason, all my media players don't like "BUP"
I tried a file extension search as windows recommended, but it doesn't give any real direction what to do here.

Am I doomed?

they shouldnt all be BUPS since:

"BUPs - BackUP

BUP files are just backup files off the IFOs. As their counterparts they are not encrypted." (as plagerised from doom9.org)

you really need to open VIDEO_TS.IFO to open the main movie

I'm in a new situation now.

As I tried to open all the files using Windows Media Player, all the
files have all changed to "VOB" files. So now I can't even see which ones are BUP, and which ones are IFO files.

Although, I did try opening a small IFO file of 20KB, which my computer doesn't recognise either.

Thanks for your help....

go to the folder > tools > folder options > view > and take the hide extensions tick out.

that should show xyz.bup xyz.VOB etc. just remember you need to know extensions when renaming....

you really need to open the VIDEO_TS from within your DVD viewing app (such as powerDVD)

windows cant natively handle DVD video as it lacks the DVD codec
