Hi there!!
I am a newbie to this site but not a newbie to computers. Here is what I do. I use Decrypter on my laptop (speed is awesome on laptop), then use shrink to shrink and then move ISO file over to desktop through my network and then burn using Nero at 2x speed. I have read almost every single guide I could find and every single forum I could find relating to my problem. Some DVD's work fine, but most of them glitch when you are watching the movie. My most recent problem is Harry Potter. First two movies backed up fine and then the third movie glitches like crazy. When I say glitch, I mean it skips and sometimes won't even play the movie. It gets just skips and then won't play. Oh, by the way, I am using Memorex DVD+R discs. I know I am using slow burn speed and good media and my DVD player is a real good quality Samsung DVD player, but I am still having this problem. Oh, I almost forgot, I have Decrypter all tricked out and shrink all tricked even set to deep analysis mode. Can anyone solve my problem PLEASE!!!!!

90% chance it's those damn memorex blanks!! I don't know how a company can keep rolling along on just "brand-equity" as far as quality. Even you, obviously experieced, stated they are good media. They don't even manufacture their own disks ie 4x is farmed out to one vendor/manufacturer and 16x to another ... memorex is great for audio and video tapes but they suck on DVD +/-R blanks. Try TDK or Sony or others that posters here will surely mention.

Summary: probably an easy solution. switch media!

Best regards,

What about the Ridata/Ritek DVD's. I always thought that the Memorex's were pretty good, so the Ridata/Ritek question may sound a little newbie like. Thanks for responding so quickly by the way.

Ritek and Ridata should be good. The media probably is the issue, just as Whisperer said. But here's another thought. When you are burning across your network, are you copying the files over your network onto your burning computer's hard drive? Or are you burning over the network "on the fly?"

Thank you for the reply squizzle. I am moving the entire file over to the desktop first because I knew that burning over the network on the fly could cause a loss of information. Thanks again. I think I will definately try new media unless someone has another solution. I will try better media for now though.

I completely agree with others that have responded in this thread. Although memorex is a quality maker of magnetic tape (cassettes) they do not make their own dvd media and buy it from the lowest bidder (usually CMC Magnetics which is crap). Some of their media is made by reputable companys but you never know what you are going to get from batch to batch. One spindle may burn flawless and the next is all coasters or won't even be recognized by your dvdrw drive. Memorex has caused more problems than any other media IMHO and I think most will agree. Do a search on memorex media and look at all the negative reviews. Try some (in order of preferance) verbatum (azo dye), Taiyo Yuden, Maxell, Fuji, Ricohjpn, Sony or branded Ritek Ridata. Depending on the make of dvdrw you are useing you might be able to booktype dvd+r media dvd-rom therefor increasing compatability.

Hey Mort, thanks for replying. However, I have a couple of questions. Where can I can get Verbatim DVD's? I have always used them for cdr's and never had a problem with them. Also, I have a Samsung OEM DVD Burner, what do you mean by "might be able to booktype dvd+r media dvd-rom therefor increasing compatability."? I have never heard of that. Thanks again!!!!

james,

You can get verbatum dvd media a lot of places online and some retail stores. Look in the media forum, I saw some threads advertising good prices. Make sure they say advanced or metal AZO dye to be sure they are made by MCC (Mitsubishi Chemical Co). I bought my last spindle of verbatum datalifeplus inkjet prntable dvd+r's from merritline.com but some other good online stores are newegg.com supermediastore.com, and rima.com

I don't think samsung dvdrw's are bitsetting (booktyping) capable. I would try some good quality media first. You might try some dvd-r's as they are more compatable than +r's especially on older set-top players. Poor quality media is the no 1 cause of freezing and pixelation. Keep your burn speeds at 4x or under to insure less chances of write errors. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Mort

PS: make sure your firmware is up to date.

that's bull crap. Almost everytime someone mentions this problem, the first suggestion is the media (at least here on aD)

Next time search. And post in DVD-R newbies. This isn't an advanced question.
