PSone backup question...some advice please???

I have a Playstation, model scph-7501, and a rather extensive set of PSone/Playstation games that i'd like to keep safe. I am curious if anyone can recommend me a good program for making rips of these games that I own/settings to use and the same for burning backups on CDR. I would also like to know if the Breaker Pro or the Gameshark(serial port) style modchip work well for backups? If not, is it more advisable to get one of the stealth modchips and solder it in myself?

On a slightly different note, I occasionaly experience issues with the laser in my Playstation being able to read games properly. However, when I turn the Playstation on its side it seems to help a little bit. Is there any recommended method for cleaning/fixing/adjusting the laser to solve this issue?
