I recently purchased a KISS DP-558 HD Recorder - It is great!

I've got the recording quality set at it's highest - If I record a 3 hour program then I end up with a single VOB file of around 12gb...

Does anyone know of any software that I could use to either edit this 1 vob file or split it up into more vob's etc. ?!?

I did try recording a program that lasted just 45 minutes - That resulted in a 2.8gb file - However, Nero for example (and a lot of other programs) refuse to let you do pretty much anything with a vob larger than 2gb...

Suggestions anyone ?!?

Sadly, I tried that but when you open files in shrink, it looks for an entire dvd structure (IFO's, BUP's etc) and all I have to work with is 1 single VOB file...

Hi,
Use DVD authoring software! Any authoring software will do. In many of them you can create simple menus etc.

you will have to compress it, try VirtualDub

the process will most likely take 4 hours or so to compress, i'm not sure if VOB files are supported, so you may want to just check it out.

Your suspicions were correct! Sadly VirtualDub does not support VOB's.

Any other suggestions ?!? (It doesn't have to be free - Will spend money if it works!)

You could use IfoEdit to make IFO and BUP files so you had a fully authored DVD. After that you could use anything from DVD Shrink to DVD-RB to compress to a more managable size. Before either of those steps you might want to use an MPEG editor to edit out commercials. In my experience, most 1 hour TV shows are actually ~42 min without commercials.
