Hi all. So it has been told everywhere that you can run unsigned code from the memory stick IF you have a japanese PSP with 1.0 firmware. You need to put your game in the memory stick like this /PSP/GAMES/GAME1/. My question is the following: if games are in ISO format, how could I make it work? PSP loads .PBP files, or am I wrong? Please any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I don't think that there is anyway that you can run psp games off of your memory stick.

yes they are, but if unsigned code runs then why not games? i need to put my hands on a psp to start trying stuff, i need to save some money so ill buy a 1gb memory stick also.
But I wonder if anyone has tried to take an iso, use magiciso on it, and then put in the memory stick of a jap 1.0 psp. What would happen?

the umd structure is something like this:

umd_date.bin
psp_game (folder)
param.sfo
icon0.png
pic1.png
usrdir (folder)
sysdir (folder)

Does that structure work from memory stick?
i dont think so, but please anyone help!

Hi, i have a psp firmware version 1.0.
if you want, you can email whatever theories you have on getting psp games to work on the memory card and any links to any software i need to download to the_bigger_question@hotmail.com and i will try it out and email you back with my findings.

i'm not a hacker but i'll probably be able to understand most of what you throw at me.

You need a loader, which has not been released yet, to play those games.

OK I just got my japanese PSP v 1.0 yesterday, but i didnt have time to do anything. I just put some emulators and it was awesome to play final fantasy 2 on it. I am not a hacker neither, but i loved to mod my xbox :D so i can do some pretty basic stuff.
My question is, why is that loader taking so much? I mean, unsigned code is running. A game in the memory card is just unsigned code also. Maybe it has not been understood how the umd game structure is . The umd dumper is around, i will try it sometime today or tomorrow. But you get an iso, and playing off the memory card seems to be different. What about that version of ridge racer people started to talk about? Some of you know what i mean ;)

ive got the umd dumper, but it just makes an iso from the umd. The problem is that you cannot just put the info in the memory stick and voala! There is needed a way to interpret the umd from the memory stick, maybe if someone understands how the psp works with the umds...

you can play some games from your memory stick.. you need to extract the ISO with a program called ISOBuster and use another game's boot.bin file to help launch the game. The source I found claims that this only works with some titles.

Here is a link talking about putting Coded Arms on your memory stick.

yes games can be played off of the MS and full games at that. I just hope PSP doesn't go the way of the Dreamcast.. if you do have these illegal backups atleast buy the game then all those claims of playing it from the MS saves battery power will actually be valid. I just don't want to see the PSP tank because no one will make games for it because of piracy.

Dreamcast didnt tank because of piracy and why are we rehashing threads from a month ago when this subject has not only been covered better in other threads but is also covered in sticky at the top of the page?

first of all its not a homebrew guide, they are talking about full psp games and yes that is why the dreamcast tanked. people were releasing full games that we able to be played on a dreamcast without any mod what so ever. once that happens companys dont want to make games that are easily copied.

The Dreamcast (software scene) is hardly dead. There are still games being developed for it (maybe not big companies) and a ton of homebrew stuff that you get from anywhere. Check out DCemu forums. The stop-sale of the actual console was due to a high price at launch and the material to make the console was not recovered from lack of sales and the price reduction had them losing money after initial release. They didn?t market/advertise correctly and could have come out with a better security feature once they knew people were hacking.
Sony did/does the same thing with their console. Thing is, they anticipate that before release and announce it to the public. They have already stated they plan on losing up to $30 something on each PS3 and that security features would make it near impossible to hack.

I was never interested in buying a Dreamcast. The hacking of the Dreamcast actually had people like me looking for a system after they stopped making the console. Once I bought the system I also purchased controllers, games and 3rd party items (memcards, etc.) If anything it helped the Dreamcast's poor marketing team. I don't know where you heard, or how you think that hacks killed the dreamcast but I assure you you're misinformed.

Any and every system that has ever come out has some sort of hack developed that allows illegal copies of games. How come all the other companies and consoles have also not flopped? I'll talk to you more about it outside of this forum if you?re interested...

The guide is in my sig and if you notice it says Homebrew and ISO. There are also several recent ISO threads that could have simply been searched for. I understand people are trying to help but it gets a little annoying in here sometimes. Sorry if I came off abrasive. Just want people to use common sense.
