Hello,

I pushed *format HDD* on my Panasonic DMR-E85H trying to format the disk. Then when I realized what I had done, I turned off/unplugged the recorder. When I restarted it, it still stayed in the *would you like to format your HDD* screen, and would not let me cancel out of it. But on the little screen on the machine itself, it says *unformat*. What can I do to get out of this screen without deleting all of the files in the hard drive? What is the difference between format/unformat?

Can someone please help! Thank you so much in advance.

The UNFORMAT command is used to recover files on a disk that have been erased by using the FORMAT command

Arniebear, thank you for your reply.

So does that mean that the panasonic E85H has a *unformat* feature? do you know which buttons on the dvd recorder that I can push to unformat the formatted HDD?

Thank you!

I have the E80H of this recorder and nowhere does my manual state it has an unformat command, however yours may be different. My advice is to read your manual and see what it states on this problem, or contact Panasonic

http://www.panasonic.com

My manual states once you format your HDD you will lose all data on it.

Hi again,

Mine doesnt either. I was hoping there was some secret code I can enter that I didnt know about...

I have decided to format the disk since there is nothing I can do. Thank you so much for sticking around to help me through this. Have a great day.

Yeah, it's too bad but now after having formatted the HDD, I realize it's not the end of the world :) (at the time I thought it would be!) Thank you, I really appreciate your input.
