you used iso buster, and extracted the .img files... then used the disc id inserter on ONLY the .img that had DNA$... when loading, if it says the .img does not contain any DNA$, do not do anything to it. OIP300.img (or what ever im at work cant really remember the name), so far i've never seen them contain dna$ but the dna$300.img (example there are also dna$280.img and others) need to be patched. Load up the img in disc inserter and click scan, if it says it has found id then insert your guessed dna$ and click patch. Use win image to re-insert only the altered dna$300/280.img you did, not the ones that didn't need to be patched (overwriting the current one). If you did that perfectly, you should have no problem. Reasons why game would freeze:
a) you edited a .img that doesn't contain dna$ (non dna$300.img, again variations in last 3 numbers occurs like dna$280.img)
b) you inserted the dna$ back into the iso but in the wrong spot.
c) when inserting you made a copy, therefore having 2 dna$ files

Guessing an incorrect dna$ WILL NOT cause your game to stop working, it will simply prevent you from playing online. Hope this clears stuff up, read the tutorial again, twice, then attempt, patients is a vertue.

Does anybody know?

I have checked all over and still can't find anything.

Also I have read a guide elsewhere that says you can use either Image Patcher V1.6 or Disc ID Insertor V2.01.

Image patcher patches a whole ISO and Disc ID Insertor patches files within an ISO.

Could anyone tell me whether Image patcher works well enough, or is it necessary to use Disc ID Insertor and do all files manually?

it doesn't work for socom or socom 2. You get an error saying you are cheating and will be banned from the server if you continue (Ithink the ban goes up in hours each time. ie 1hour ban. then second time 2hour ban, etc. or something like that).

World Rally Championship 4 - PAL/AU (SCES_523.89)
(Size = 1,294,128 bytes)
Disc ID = XX XX 00 60 2C

This ID didn't work for me. I found another one on a different site and it worked. However, you need to sign up for a Central Station Account to play online...but I'm sure nobody is playing this game in the US anyway...it kicks ass though.

Here's the ID that worked for me and some others:
Disc ID = XX XX 00 40 2C
