I want to convert rm audio files to mp3,But I don't know what to choose of the settings when I press 'convert'; well,first I choosed encode output file as mp3 then I am like lost.
OK,
(Quality)
1)What sampling rate I should choose:
[8k,11.025,16,...,44.1k] ?
2)What channels I should chosse: mono or stereo ?
Does it matter what is the quality of the rm file ? Because original quality i.e. is 22050 Hz , Mono ( but deactivated option) !
I mean since I am converting to other file format mp3 not rm,is it better to change the quality to higher or may be lower sampling rate ? and channels to stereo or mono ?
(Encode output file)
1st of all , why is the Bitrate in "kBps" not "kbps" ?
Because 'kbps' as I know stands for: kilo bits per second
while 'kBps' I think stands for: kilo bytes per second.
after all the reasonable rate is at bits 'b' not bytes 'b' !!
well,after that
1)What bitrate I should choose ?
as in the programm[8 kBps,16,...128,...,256]?
2)Is the bitrate & sampling rate & (sometime channels) related to each other ??
Because when I change the bitrate,the sampling rate changes and sometimes doesn't,the same for the channels mono changes to stereo sometimes ? this happens forwhatever field I change;either bitrate,sampling,or the channels and either going up or down !
(Filters)
What do they mean,should I mark any,some of them,what are their effects ? they are:
[]Use equlizer (slow)
[]Jitter control for CD (slow)
[]Normalize sound
-------------------------------------------------------------------
well I already tried bitrate 256,64,24,8 & don't remember sampling;
but I noticed 256 bitrate has a big size compared to others,but I don't know about sampling rate 44k Hz or 8k Hz ?
the 8 bitrate is really bad !
All of that is just test,trial & error, but I need information in what is best to choose to have high quality sound ?
Is it possible to have more quality than the original rm file ?
I think also some high rates will just add more size but not much quality on the other hand !
Is it good to convert as what was the original rm file bitrate,sampling,channels ?
{ but keep in mind that it is another file format mp3 ,which maybe some features like bitrate or sampling don't mean the same thing or have the same effect or quality of sound;I think }

Sorry,for this long detailed,message ! but don't you think if I have a guide or manual would be better ?
I already read great part of the thread:

I am using realplayer10,added cook3260.dll ,Streambox Ripper 2.009
want to convert rm,wma files to mp3,especially and more importantly
a dozen of folders each containing 2 rm files named xxx A & xxx B with a duration of about 45 min for each file,these are made intentionally to be recorded on cassettes on both sides A&B as you can see from the file names, to have finally 12 cassettes with a&b sides;so there are 24 files I want to convert and then burn on CD-RW to be played on my car mp3 player.Info about them from realplayer they are all 20Kbps and with 1 audio channel(I think mono)bitrate 20.7 Kbps;from streambox ripper they are 22KHz,Mono,G2,16 bits,but 0kBps don't know why ?
