I purchased a Ilo dvd recorder yesterday (model DVDR05) that is supposed to use dvd +r/+rw discs. I have been trying to record my vhs movies to dvd and when I insert a blank disc to record to I get a messages stating that the "disc is unregonizable or full" It then alerts me as to whether I want to repair the disc, yes or no. If I click "no", then it ejects the disc. If I click yes, then a bar comes up at the top and it seems to be "deleting" as it moves the percentage across the bar. The problem is, I am using only dvd +r discs, not +rw ones, they are brand new, and I have tried two different brands of discs and I am getting the same message on both. After I click yes to repair it and prepare for recording, it seems to work fine, it "records", the disc looks like it has been burned (on the bottom). When I go to play my copied disc, I get a message from the recorder stating that the disc is damaged or is unrecognized and it will not play.
Any advice or opinions on what I need to do or what is wrong with this thing? I have let both record to the end, I have finalized the discs, and I'm still getting the messages from the recorder.
HELP!
i'm having same problem with the ilo dvdr05. it won't even playback the dvds that it burns. After finalizing (+R media) a disc it reports everything successful. Then, no playback or access to edit titles...
Thanks for suggestions.
I returned the unit and got another one. This one seemed to work fine, but after wasting 4 hours recording, I wanted to play it safe and make sure it recorded fine. It finalized OK, it played ok BUT sure enough there were parts on the DVD that froze up, especially towards the end.
Bottom line, ILO is a piece of crap. I wasted hours using it, ruined 5+ DVD+R. I am going to pay a little more and buy a name brand. ILO and Cyberhome (which makes ILO) is the cheapest, lowest quality recorder you can buy. As the saying goes, you get what you pay for. The service dept said to update firware. WHY? It was manufactured 2 months ago and I have to update firware? I actually wasted time doing this but didn't help.
and another reason why it might be skipping is the media you use. You didn't mention what brand of media you are using.......... and yes it does make a difference! here is a site that will tell you which brands are out there and what does a good job:
http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
I use only the best: Taiyo Yuden, Sony, or Verbatum !!
here is a site that will tell you about your DVD writer, what media is good for it and will tell you all about the media that is best:
http://www.videohelp.com/dvdwriters.php
I hope this might help you, too! All too often people forget that the media is part of the problem...... get the best for your machine and you have half the problem licked! this way you can really cancel out what is really at the heart of the problem!
ILO is poor quality. Bought a sanyo instead works perfect, no problems. You see the difference in quality. Stay away from ILO is my recommendation unless you want unpredicatable quality and a bunch of coasters (wasted DVDS).

I have a friend that bought the ILO dvd REC. it works fine for him and it even comes with a Fire wire port "and that's the reasion h e bought it" he wanted to burn his camcorder video right to dvd..
I would say you just got a bad one, or you had it on under or near another pice of hardware ...
Most DVD REC'S can;t be on top of or under other electronics ..
